The pros: Trader Joe's Chocolate Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones is the perfect dessert when you only want a bite of ice cream and don't want to eat the whole pint.
The cons:Â It's easy to eat a few of these.
The verdict: Â The days are getting shorter, but that doesn't change my desire for ice cream. I do love I cream. While mint chip is my favorite, I'll happily settle for chocolate as a second choice. So I picked these up on a whim.
Now, let me clarify one thing: if calories did not count I would reach for Trader Joe's Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches every single time. However, calories do count according to the waist bands on all of my pants, and therefore the Hold the Cone becomes my go to dessert for just a touch of sweetness and under 90 calories each. So, if you want the feeling a dessert without sacrificing flavor or having it come prepackaged to you in a plastic bag then this is a great option.
Each cone will remind you of soft serve with a chocolate bonnet, just on a much smaller scale. However, that bonnet extends beyond the cap of the ice cream. The worst part of having an ice cream cone is the fact that the ice cream on occasion starts to drip out of the bottom. That is not that case here as there is also chocolate lining the cone. The chocolate coating is dark in color and slightly sweet in taste. That is paired with a nice chocolate ice cream which reminded me of soft serve that has been frozen to a hard freeze.
The cone is a nice crispy waffle cone. They've already taken the time to ensure the worst part of having a waffle cone won't happen to you. So, they only thing you have to worry about it making sure that it goes from your freezer to your mouth. The more you allow it to defrost, the soggier it will get. Otherwise, you have a really pleasant dessert in your hand that will be gone in about three bites.
Overall, for $2.99 you are getting a box with a plastic box inside to hold the cones. While some of the packaging might be a bit much, you are getting a pretty good dessert. It might not be as filling as getting a soft serve cone at your local ice cream parlor, but if you are watching what you eat these are pretty darn good.

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Chocolate Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones again. It hit the spot for ice cream without worrying about a pint getting freezer burn (or as it is affectionately named in my house hold "protective ice").
