The pros:Â Trader Joe's Tarte Aux Fruits is a terrific blend of sweet and tart on a nice crust.
The cons: Be sure to keep this level if you are defrosting, otherwise you'll have a gnarly mess waiting for you. Mine wasn't quite as picture perfect as the box, but it tasted just fine.
The verdict: Â Let's face it, odds are you have been invited to an unexpected get together or had company unexpectedly. We've all been there. If your company would appreciate dessert, then consider keeping one of these around.
After a nice filling dinner, there are times when perhaps dessert can be skipped. Where I'm from, dinner isn't over until you've had dessert (and coffee). Well, if your host asks you to bring dessert then this is a solid option that comes to you all the way from France.
Like so many of Trader Joe's imported items, this does very well. Just don't hope for the same level of visual perfection on the cover. Mine was a touch sloppier. Unlike many products, this only has a plastic cover shielding it from any movements in transport. So many products are wrapped in plastic (and rewrapped in more plastic). This only gets the tin and the plastic cover.
So be sure to store this or defrost this for that matter on a flat surface. Otherwise, you'll have a gooey mess in the box just waiting for you. Regardless of any potential mess you are getting a tarte that has no pastry cream. It's just beautiful in its simplicity.
This is a mix of blueberries, raspberries, and currants. A good amount of pectin keeps this more solid than a runny mess. This dessert is a really good balance between sweet and tart. It is a nice balance that will satisfy your desire for something sweet after dinner.
The fruit still had very good texture for a frozen item. The crust had nice flavor as well. You'll get 5 generous servings, but I think you could get a 6th serving out of this pie without too much effort.
For $6.99, this is worth keeping in your freezer in case of company whether it is expected or unexpected. Or perhaps something to keep in your freezer just in case. It's well done and just a really well balanced dessert.

I kinda wish it has pastry cream YUM! But looks so good. I can see this as a great ice cream mix-in.

Ice cream would be a great mix in too! Thanks for stopping by Alek!

I’m a big fan of fruity desserts and berries do seem to freeze well. I’m thinking this would be great with whipped cream whih would also help disguise any defrosting mishaps 😉

Hey Ttrockwood! I had my slices with whipped cream and it was a nice balance to the tart profile here. And yes, once you cut into this you won't even notice any mishaps :).

This is my most favorite thing ever.....right up there with brownies!
I don’t thaw and bake like the directions say. I like it with the crust hot and the berries still really cold.
So..I preheat the oven first..then take the still frozen tart out of the freezer.
I set the tart on a cookie sheet and bend back the sides of the aluminum pan it’s in.
...So crust will be baked hot and crispier...plus easier to cut and lift generous slices out later.
Then, before baking ... I evenly redistribute any out of place berries,....(so they aren’t all in a lump on one side)
.
Place in center of oven..set timer..and bake for 10 minutes.
Cut into quarters...then ....one piece after another devour it!
(Unless you have to be polite and share if someone else is in the room with you!) Lol!
