The pros:  Trader Joe's Lys Kaffe Coffee is a coffee meant to fill a gap in the coffee aisle. For the most part coffee focus in Trader Joe's has revolved around medium to dark coffee drinkers. Here is a light coffee that is good.

The cons:  Might not be for everyone. When I ground this at home, this had some pieces that were almost the color of sawdust.

The verdict:  Recently, most places that sell coffee have placed an emphasis on the buyers of dark roast coffees. Trader Joe's has a wide range of selections ranging from medium to dark, but really, nothing to speak of in the light roast variety. Now, they do offer it.

For $7.99 you are getting a 12 ounce container of coffee beans that are a blend of several African varieties. Now, there is some debate as to the caffeine level and I'll let Mr. Coffee settle things; the caffeine difference between light and dark roasts are negligible. What you are getting here is a bright tasting and fruity blend. The beans are not oily. It will give you your morning buzz, but won't have the rich and intensity of a dark roast. It is good in the morning or as a good middle of the day cup of coffee. It's also good as a break to your usual medium brew. If you are dark only, then I would say skip this. Overall, it made a pretty decent cup of coffee. I'm a medium roast drinker and I enjoyed this as a nice break to my usual Trader Joe's Tarrazu.

Darker grounds are Trader Joe's Tarrazu while the lighter grounds are Trader Joe's Lys Kaffe.

Would I buy this again?  It won't make a weekly list, but it was a nice break from my usual coffee. I'd consider buying this again.
