The pros: Trader Joe's 27 Layer Sesame Croissini is new to shelves and if you enjoy snacking on breadstick, you'll find this enjoyable.

The cons: I'm not sure why the package says eat while warm. It was good warm, but the flaky layers were much improved at room temperature. Not many of my croissinis were twisted out of the box. I'm not sure if this is a defect or something to expect.

The verdict:  Once upon a time, it wasn't long ago when something as simple are a good roast or fine pastry was considered an art form. Perhaps we have grown sick or accustomed to them. Maybe we are experiencing a food revolution right now where mixing perfected items together has gained traction and has developed into a newer art form.

We live in the world of the cronuts, turducken, pluots, plumcots, tangelos, broccolini, and limequats just to name a few. And don't think this phenomenon is limited to just food. Nope, it even has affected our choices in pets as well. Labradoodles and so many others have left the category of "mutt" and become something designer. I'm sure I missed a few fun hybrid items that have become increasingly trendy, but that is what the comments section is for, right?

Welcome to Trader Joe's hybrid food the Sesame Croissini. Now, the croiss- part of the name is self-explanatory for the croissant dough used. The Italian name for bread stick is Grissini. Or at least that is the explanation that I'm coming up with to help clarify the name while we wait for the explanation on their website.

This croissini has the flavor of the familiar croissant pastry sans filling. Out of the oven tastes like a croissant. Or at least the dough part. No need for an egg wash as the sesame coats the twists. Or rods in my case. I got a mix of both. Most of mine weren't twisted. I have one or two a twist to see. You'll need about the same cooking time regardless. Given enough time to cool, this takes on another familiar but strangely satisfying texture.

In place of the softer croissant texture warm, this will evolve into the texture of a bread stick. Now if you are into those super crisp, nearly teeth crushing bread sticks, then these aren't them. They are crisp but flaky at the same time. There are more than enough sesame seeds for these. My package seemed to have an abundance of a tablespoon or two just floating around. So if you want more sesame, you'll just have to "open sesame" the package and shake it out.

For $3.99 for eight, these are a satisfying and savory snack item. I can see these being a hit at parties or when you just need a little something. Be careful though, I polished off two without thinking about it and could have easily had another two mindlessly. The sesame added just a hint of flavor that would have otherwise kept these as bland croissant rods. In either case, this Frankenfood is worthy of trying if you enjoy a freshly baked bread stick without visiting your local bakery.

Glad to see you were able to find these At your Trader Joes. Thanks for reviewing them. Now I definitely need to go out and get some. Maybe good brushed with a little bit of garlic butter or dipped in some marinara sauce?

I just picked these up last night. I couldn't resist since I love croissants and sesame seeds. These are scrumptious on their own of folded into a sandwich with some ham or cheese. I scarfed up four of them before I looked at the calorie count. Definitely will buy again. Unlike the other TJ's croissants these don't require the agonizing wait for the dough to rise.

Hey Katerina! I'm glad you enjoyed and yes, I'm glad these did not require any rise time too! Thanks so much for taking the time and stopping by.
