The pros: Trader Joe's La Fondue is a solid choice in fondue and an even better value than going out to have fondue. Fondue in most restaurants is a very expensive experience. For the amount of product you get here this is an excellent value. Decent shelf life for a cheese product. Container is re
The cons: Put something under this in the microwave as mine overflowed in the first 2 minutes. How are there 18 servings? I think they meant you can dip things in there about 18 times. In other words, this is a calorie bomb, but then again anything melted cheese usually is. Sigh.
The verdict: For $6.49 this was a perfect treat to celebrate the New Year (and before New Years Resolutions start). It was a nice blend of cheeses with the distinct taste of white wine and a hint of kirsch. We had our fondue with pretzels so the salt level seemed just right. There was also a slight hint of garlic. If I can find this again, and yes, this can be very hit or miss, I'd buy this again.

Would I buy this again? My stomach says yes and my thighs say no. You are getting a lot for the money here. Good swiss will set you back at least $10 per pound. Have fondue out? It's usually about $10+ per person. Trader Joe's La Fondue was $6.49 for just over a pound which would have been enough for at least 3-4 people to share (although I doubt 18 people could share this). Trader Joe's also sells and excellent Trader Joe’s Fondue Au Chocolate or Chocolate Fondue which would make for a great date night for staying in your home. All you have to provide is the stuff to dip into the molten cheese. The only flaw that I found was you should put a plate or something under this in the microwave. Ours boiled over on the first 2 minutes, but being that it was molten cheese it was relatively easy to clean up. Not a deal breaker, but just something to note.
