The pros: Trader Joe's Shooting Stars are a really surprisingly good cookie. Nothing overly sophisticated, but it is whimsical with the popping candy and is successful as a cookie. A great choice for kids and for the kid at heart.

The cons: These are a bit pricey for how small the package is.

The verdict:  In my weekly shopping trip to Trader Joe's I always make it a point to investigate the new product end cap to which I found this box of cookies. For $2.99 you are getting a measly 16 cookies. Don't get me wrong, but I was wishing for more because these were good.

In the box are nice firm sugar cookies. They weren't crumbly in the least. On top are stripes of chocolate. On the bottom of the cookie is also good tasting chocolate. Overall, this is a sweet tasting cookie. It's not too sweet. Just these two elements would make me want to buy a big box of these.

These are called shooting stars for a reason. This is one of the only cookies that I've ever had that needed a warning. When you have a sweet tooth, perhaps all cookies should come with a warning label. But here, the popping candy is added as a fun textural and sensory element. When I first had these they were popping very close to my face. So yes, there is a justification for the warning. These did make me feel like I was a kid again.

Overall, I'd buy them again. I would like to see these become permanent. I'd just prefer a larger container for the price.
