Trader Joe's Italian Style Wrap

The pros:  Trader Joe's Italian Style Wrap is one of the better wraps in the refrigerated aisle.

The cons:  This has a lot of calories in it. The creamy Dijon is more mayo than mustard. Oh and it contains 74% of your recommended fat intake. You'll want to look over the nutritional information before grabbing and going.

The verdict:  Trader Joe's Italian Style WrapWhat does a KFC Chicken Pot Pie, Taco Bell's Nacho Bell Grande, and a McDonald's 21 ounce chocolate triple thick shake have in common with this wrap? The same number of calories.

Yup, 770 calories in the smallest package possible.

If you are like me and rushing off to places and don't have time to cook, you might be tempted to just grab and go without giving it second glance. And by second glance I do mean looking at the calorie count.

This has more calories than a Big Mac. And sadly, when many of us hear the word "wrap" you hold out a bit of hope for there being some type of healthy aspect to it.

Here is wrap that is called "Italian Style" and yet it is one of the wimpiest wraps when looking at it. I've had my share of Italian sandwiches, but they are loaded in a way that will remind you that your jaw can only open so wide.

Not the case here. A few pieces of cheese, a few slices of meat, too much creamy Dijon mustard spread that contains too much mayo. And to round this out is some soggy lettuce, some roasted red peppers which lend some heat and add just a bit too much moisture on to a wrap that sits in the refrigerator.

Each bite wasn't bad. But it wasn't almost 800 calories of good either. You have the elements of a decent wrap, but spread should have been kept separate. Any wrap that has too much moisture isn't a good wrap. That is the case here with the peppers and the mustard spread. There should have been more meat and cheese. The pepper was good and added a touch of spice. But still the fat and calorie content are just so high.

For $3.99 there are probably better ways of consuming 770 calories in one sitting.

Would I buy this again?  Trader Joe's Italian Style Wrap is a no from me. The calorie count is just so high! And the wrap so under filled for anything called "Italian Style." There are some real duds in the pre-made wrap section. The most solid one, in my opinion, is still the Bean and Cheese Burrito.

I totally agree with you! I have tried most of their wraps and they're just not worth the calories in flavor or filling. There is nothing spectacular or special about them for the most part. And quite honestly as much as I love meat I love cheese even more. In most of the cheese included varieties there is virtually no cheese in my opinion. Wah!

Do neighorhood delis still exist? That would be the place to go, to waste good calories. Or should I just erase those from my memory?

Hey Steveo! Deli's are great places and I have a bunch by me. The last week at work I was there for 80 hours. I did one grocery run and that was it. It was a complete grab and go type of week. That's how that ended up in my cart. Thanks so much for stopping by!
