The pros:Â Trader Joe's Chocolate Covered Wafer Cookie are new and inexpensive. They are pretty decent.
The cons: I hoping for this to be Trader Joe's copy cat Kit Kat. I did not rise to that level. They can't be split easily for sharing or portion control. If you have allergies, this too contains a long list of possible allergens.
The verdict: Â
If I'm in line anywhere for too long, a candy bar almost always ends up in my cart. While that almost never happens at Trader Joe's, it almost always happens when I am at another grocery store or a busy CVS with only one cashier.
I can narrow it down to just three candies that I reach for: Junior Mints, M&Ms, and Kit Kats. When I saw this, I was truly hoping this would Trader Joe's answer to Kit Kats. When I purchased this I asked my cashier about the similarities.
His answer bummed me out.
He said, "You might be coming back with the bar, if that is what you are hoping for. We just sampled it."
Well, while he was correct in letting me know of my disappointment, he thought I would drive back to return an item that costs less than a dollar.
So what you actually have here is something closer to a Kit Kat Big Kat. Without the thick coating of chocolate on either side.
Unfortunately, that is what makes a kit kat distinct. This is only chocolate wafer layers without that contrast in taste and texture. If you wished a kit kat had less chocolate this might be a hit for you.
If you aren't into sharing, then this might be for you as well. There isn't a nice way to share this bar. It's not segmented in anyway; it is just a big chocolate covered wafer cookie.
For $0.79 it's not bad. But it is nothing necessary or game changing either. It isn't a standout and if you have any food allergies, please check the list as it seems quite a bit longer than some of the other items I've tried in the past.

Would I buy this again? No, I would not buy Trader Joe's Chocolate Covered Wafer Cookie again. They were alright, but not worthy of a repurchase.

Not being a fan of lots of sweet things, this actually looks pretty attractive. I love crunchy things, so not having to wade through a big wad of chocolate might be desirable. I'm not likely to spring 79 cents for a one-time treat like this, though. Sounds chintzy, I know, but sweet things just don't have a lot of appeal to me.
Virtual hugs,
Judie

Hey Judie! This is one that isn't necessary to life, in fact its pretty basic. Nothing a package of wafer cookies and a bit of chocolate fondue couldn't fix. Thanks so much as always for taking the time to stop by!

Interesting that this product travelled all the way from Poland!

Hey Alek! Interestingly enough the wafer cookies and the cocoa filled cookies were both made in Poland and both have the same long list of allergens which makes me wonder if they were made at the same place. Great observation. Thanks so much for sharing and stopping by!

True, but it has no palm oil, and the wafers are chunkier and tastier than KitKat: moral and tasty. All of Traders Joes chocolate is delicious with serious chocolate flavor, less of that punch you in the face sugar from so many regular American candy bars….and most of it has no palm oil. Win win

Hey Alison! Good point on the palm oil. I rarely comment too much on the ingredients, I only photograph the list so people can make the best choices for themselves and their families. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!

I think your review was not fair. I have tried many chocolate wafer bars in the US and outside, and knowing the lack of food chocolate in the US in general, this wafer bar from Trader Joe’s is incredibly selected. The chocolate is very tasty! The sugar balance is great and the crunch is there. I usually stock up on this every time I hit Trader, 3-5 packs a visit. You mentioned tiktak, that’s a different breed of wafers. This one btw is a great selection made in Poland, and Poland is known for making great chocolate and bars. The packaging is so simple and straightforward with no BS or extra use of colors. Just plain red and dark brown with a big name that simply states what the product is. It’s brilliant. I really hope Trader Joe’s continues to sell this for many years to come.
