The pros: Trader Joe's Indonesian Flores Small Lot Coffee is one of the newest small lot coffees to hit shelves at Trader Joe's. This also has more in common with a medium roast than a light roast.
The cons: Small lot coffees don't last long on Trader Joe's shelves. If you enjoy it, then grab a couple as the supply tends to be limited.
The verdict: I love coffee. Like really love coffee. I'll try anything at least once. But, I do gravitate towards medium roasts than any other variety. Trader Joe's has increasingly upped their coffee game by adding more variety to the light to light medium roasts. While there are plenty of medium, dark and even extra dark roasts of the shelves, for those who enjoy a light cup, then the new small lot coffees are a way to expand your horizon.
For $8.99 this is priced about the same as many of the other small coffees. This bag is too 12 ounces and has the familiar if not occasionally hard to open pull top zip bag. Once you get this bag open you'll be hit with coffee that smells delightful out of the bag before grinding. It has a true deep and rich coffee aroma.
Out of the bag, you get beans with a nice sheen to them. They have far more characteristics of a medium roast than say a lighter one. Once brewed the coffee has an earthy aroma. It brews like a medium roast. It does have the mentioned acidity and full bodied. So while some people might feel inclined to save this as an afternoon cup of coffee, I don't see why it couldn't be enjoyed as your first cup either.
While coffee is quite a personal thing, I liked this quite a bit. It was a nice change and fun to try. It is worthy in my book as an item worth repurchasing.

This sounds like good coffee to try. I usually prefer dark roasts but I have also become fond of medium roasts. I recently saw actress Ellen Muth (loved her in Dead Like Me) on a talk show promoting her coffee line. Apparently she is so enamored with coffee that she took time off of acting to massively research coffees throughout the world & has since become a purveyor. She gives high praise to “geisha:coffee”. I saw your review on TJs own geisha coffee-I still want to try it. Her website makes for an interesting read/tutorial on the best coffees available throughout the world. Cool features like freshly roasting to your likeness, detailed product descriptions, single origin, fair trade etc. I might splurge and buy some.

Hey Dag! I saw that she had Geisha too. I was intrigued. If you do end up trying it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Trader Joe's Geisha wasn't that good and certainly wasn't worth the premium.

I always look forward to your reviews.
I had previously bought Trader Joe's Zambia (Medium Roast, green packaging), and really liked it. I saw that you had reviewed that one too!
When I went in to TJ's today, I couldn't find the Zambia anywhere... I think they might be all gone 🙁
I did see this Indonesian Flores in its place, though. Might have to try it next time.

Hey Meg! I really liked the Zambia coffee. Flores is a good option too. If you do get it, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!

The other day my wife purchased Indonesian Flores Small lot coffee. This is the most delicious coffee of all the coffees we have purchased at Trader Joes! My wife went back to get more to be told it was a limited amount and there was no longer any on the shelf. How disappointing, we even told our neighbors about this wonderful coffee. Please bring it back!! We live in Manassas, VA and look forward to drinking more in the future.
Sincerely,
Dagmar and Malcolm Kirsop
