The pros:  Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Truffles have a nice shell and a soft interior that might remind you of something close to a Lindor truffle.

The cons: Wrapped this looks more like the Death Star than an Easter candy. No option for Dark Chocolate fans.

The verdict:  Spring is here and Easter should be here soon too. So, it's not too soon to start thinking about those Easter baskets. Trader Joe's has made several seasonal items over the years for the Easter season with varying degrees of success. I was happy to see the Bunny Gummy Tummies return. But when it comes to seasonal chocolates, they like to mix things up.

This year brings us Milk Chocolate Truffles. For $2.29 they are reasonably priced for 10. The bag screams Easter and so does the packaging. However, unwrapped you get a chocolate that looks like the Death Star from Star Wars. Not very Easter-y.

These follow roughly the same format as most truffles. There is a crisp chocolate shell and a creamy filling. Now, fans of dark chocolate will be disappointed by the sweetness here. I wished they did offer a dark chocolate option.

This is sweet no doubt. The creme filled center just adds to it. But if you are the type who reaches for milk chocolate, perhaps this might be up your alley. My truffles seemed to have an air pocket in each of these, but it did not take away too much from each. The sweetness might get to you. I was completely satisfied by eating just one.

These are a limited run item. So once they are gone, they are gone. I liked them. They were above anything that tastes like a cheap Easter bunny. And they were pretty close to what you might buy in another mass market branded bag of truffles. They are sweet, so they are a bit easier to put down. Maybe next year they'll expand the line and give us some dark chocolate truffles. Worth a try if you can find these.

Would I buy this again? One bag is enough for the season but Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Truffles were good if you are milk chocolate fan and don't mind the pairing sweet on sweet flavors.

Interesting take. Yes, they are very sweet. And, yes, I would love them to have been made with dark chocolate. But, honestly, it is extremely rare that 1 piece of candy can really be enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, and this did. I would suggest freezing them so that they slowly melt in your mouth.
