Shaving is one of those necessary evils, like doing laundry or remembering to defrost chicken before dinner. The right shave cream can make the difference between legs that feel like silk and legs that feel like sandpaper. Trader Joe's recently updated their Cream Shave, and after my less-than-fabulous experience with the old formula, I was skeptical. But curiosity (and dry legs) won, and I decided to give it a shot. Spoiler alert: this one might just earn a permanent spot in my shower.

Review
Trader Joe's Moisturizing Cream Shave comes in a bright, sunny tube that is now matte instead of shiny and feels like a mini spa treatment before you even open it. This new formula is designed to moisturize while providing a smooth glide for your razor. It has a mango and honey fragrance that's subtle enough not to overwhelm your nose first thing in the morning. The texture is more like a creamy hair conditioner - thick enough to stay put, but not so heavy that it clogs up your razor.
I'll be honest: the original Cream Shave and I were not friends. No matter what razor I used, I ended up with razor burn and irritation. It was enough to make me avoid reviewing it altogether.
But this new version? Way better.
When I applied it, the cream spread easily without sliding right off my skin like some gel-based products do. It created a light cushion between my skin and the razor that made the shave feel smoother and less tuggy. The mango and honey scent was light, not artificial, and made my shower smell faintly tropical without competing with my lotion or perfume.
After rinsing, my legs felt soft and hydrated - not that tight, stripped feeling you get with foaming shave creams. I still needed lotion afterward for maximum moisture, but this definitely took the edge off post-shave dryness. And most importantly: no razor burn. Not once.
While I still think there are fancier shave creams out there, at $4.99 this is a great, affordable option that performs well without irritating my skin. It's good enough that I'd actually buy it again, which is saying something considering my rocky history with the original formula. The tube is 8 ounces which means this should last you a decent amount of time as well.
