The pros:Â Trader Joe's Oh My Guava might remind you less of a juice product and more like Trader Joe's Agua Fresca, but with a distinct tea taste. This product comes in a nice glass bottle.
The cons: If you are hoping for a super sweet juice product, you might be disappointed in this. This is much lighter tasting. The black tea also mutes the color of this product.
The verdict: Â
There are a lot of good drinks to reach for at Trader Joe's. There have been some duds too. This however is another solid choice. While the color isn't beautiful, the flavor is very good without the heaviness of being juice. While the flavor description did not sound like it would work, I thought it really did.
While the product sounds like it should be very sweet, it really isn't as sweet as it sounds. While two of the main ingredients are water and tea, the other two main ingredients are guava and sugar. It sounds from the ingredients that this should be quite sweet, but it isn't. It's color is a bit muddy; that does not detract from the flavor here.
The first notes I picked up on was the subtle sweetness of the guava puree. The tea flavor was present but subtle. The best product comparison I can give is with Trader Joe's Organic Agua Fresca which is another product that is sweet, but not too sweet. Both have a high water content and are meant to be refreshing and not heavy.
Personally, I enjoyed this drink very much. I frequently find 100% fruit juice to be a bit sweet for my liking, but this was just sweet enough. For $2.99 a 32 ounce bottle this is an almost weekly purchase in my household. Like the description says, it would likely make a good cocktail mixer. It's a product that is worth a try.
