The pros: Â Trader Joe's Sea Salt and Turbinado Sugar Dark Chocolate Almonds is a nice balance of sweet, salty, and nutty.
The cons: Â The more you eat of these, then more addicting they are.
The verdict: Â Sweet and salty. Two things that probably should not go together, but somehow play so very well together. Add a bit of nutty crunch and you have a really delightful little snack on your hands.
As much as I liked these, they did not cross over into love. I think for me there was a gap between expectations and reality. You see the beauty of sea salt and turbinado sugar is that they are super textural. You have a nice chocolate coating that isn't overly sweet.
But at the same time I was so hoping for the texture somehow come through of those two items. Trader Joe's has been able to manage it in the past quite successfully. So many times before I was able to not only taste the salt, but there was a subtle crunch as well. That wasn't present in here. There was a textured exterior, but it wasn't salt.
Nor was it the turbinado sugar. If you haven't had turbinado sugar, then Trader Joe's sells it. It too is quite coarse but also has a gentle molasses flavor too. That too got lost in this product. But all is not lost here.
I would like to think of these as something closer to a Snickers bar. Obviously some major elements are missing, but at the same time these satisfy. They will take the edge off if you are hungry. They will take the edge off if you want something sweet. They will take the edge off if you are looking for something salty.
A handful for me was enough where I could walk away. And I think that is a good thing. For me, there have been too many snacks that tasted so good that it was an excercise in self-control to put it down.
For $4.79 per package, they are very good and manage to be very filling at the same time. That helps to resist the temptation of eating all of these in a single sitting. Worth a try if you have not gotten around to it yet.

Would I buy this again?  While I liked these, Trader Joe's Sea Salt and Turbinado Sugar Dark Chocolate Almonds may or may not end up in my basket again. I don't need the calories, but I did find these strangely addicting.

I can see my Trader Joe's run tomorrow being all about almonds....lol. These, the bourbon one's (if they have them) & another favorite of mine - Thai Lime & Chili Almonds. I so love those kaffir lime leaves that are mixed in.
