The pros: Trader Joe’s Strawberry Chia Smoothie is super flavorful, thick, and very well done. This has great strawberry flavor even though apple juice is the first ingredient.
The cons: Price. With a little bit of prep, this could easily be made at home.
The verdict: I’m normally not the smoothie type of person. I have a blender and a Magic Bullet. Even then I rarely take the time to make a smoothie. I just rather eat my fruit than drink it. Trader Joe’s Strawberry Chia Smoothie interested me because I love the flavor of strawberries and thought chia seeds would make an interesting addition to the smoothie.
This smoothie has three ingredients to it: apple juice, strawberry puree, and chia seeds. The strawberry flavor here is the most noticeable flavor. The apple juice plays more of a secondary role. This smoothie is quite thick and that is thanks to the chia seeds. Chia seeds take on a more gelatinous consistency when a liquid is added to them. As an added bonus, if you drink this whole container you’ll get half of all the fiber you need in a day.
However, for $2.99 for a 16 ounce bottle, this can get expensive if it is a daily habit. If I had any complaint, it’s the price. This can be done at home with a little bit of time, prep, and the right ingredients. Besides, Trader Joe’s does sell some of the least expensive chia seeds around. This is a well done smoothie that is worth a try. I’d be willing to buy it again, but at just about $3 each, it gets pricey which is my only real complaint here.
