The pros:  Trader Joe's Vegetable Melange is a pleasant blend of veggies that can be made quickly without needing to add much of anything.

The cons: If you don't like the seasoned butter sauce it has been part of the coating of the veggies. Bag cannot is not resealable.

The verdict:  When you live in a small household, making an entire meal that is balanced can be a bit well, unbalanced. One of the things that frequently fall by the wayside is the side of veggies. It's just too much work for too many leftovers. But thank goodness for frozen veggie mixes. Even in a household of just 2 people, a bag of frozen veggies or even a canned veggie can be a bit much. While this bag is not resealable, you can portion out what you need without having it come out unbalanced with the sauce.

Overall, this is a good mix. You are getting a nice mix of peas, carrots, corn, and cauliflower. Usually most mixes are either peas and carrots. Some are just corn. This one throughs in cauliflower. Even though you get a pretty decent mix, it cooked evenly and there was enough sauce and seasoning where it literally did not need anything. Everything was cooked through without being mushy.

I cooked mine from the microwave. And yes, the directions worked perfectly as long as you give this a stir half way through. Each veggie (yes including the peas) is covered in the butter sauce, but its not so much sauce that you might be grossed out. It is enough to cover without drenching it in sauce. So whether you mare making this for yourself or for a group, it's a pleasant mix that's worth adding in your rotation of veggies.

For $2.49 this is worth trying if you haven't gotten to it yet. It did not need much of anything. The serving size of 5 seems a bit small. I think you are closer to 3-4 servings at most. It's still worth a try.

I love this stuff. I like to use it for the base for a quick pot pie. I sprinkle the veggies with some chopped onion, chicken stock, and a little flour, add some cubed cooked chicken and stir it up in a baking dish. Then I top all that with drops of prepared biscuit mix and bake it. It's a delicious meal.

Fried Rice. The butter brings out the flavor of the vegetables. Unfortunately, the vegetables melange has been discontinued.
