The pros:Â Trader Joe's Zimbabwe Small Lot Coffee one of the newest additions to Trader Joe's small lot coffee collection.
The cons: While this pouch design probably saves space on store shelves, if you don't open it exactly correct, the package can be difficult to open. If you enjoy this, then pick up a few as the small lot coffees do not always reappear on store shelves.
The verdict: Â Other than the freezer section, I feel like I've made a good dent in the coffee aisle at Trader Joe's in terms of reviews. The freezer section is also where I feel like I can say that I have eaten everything at least once. Well, the small lot coffees keep me busy. Every time I feel like I have reached completion, another one pops up. In fact, the last time I was there they had another new coffee.
Anyways, this coffee says medium dark roast, but after brewing seemed on par with my medium roasts. This bag also does not mention it is an AA coffee. AA coffee beans tend to be larger, but these seemed on the smaller side.
The beans were roasted and had a slight shine to them indicating they were a touch oily. The brew made for a bright, balanced, and a touch floral. There was a bright acidity, but it did not have quite the same body as say the Zambia Small Lot coffee did. So if you are more of a Starbuck's fan where the coffee can be a bit earthy, or perked dirt as my father used to call it, then you might not find this brew too enjoyable. While the imagery on the bag is quite exotic, so was Zambia's packaging. But there is no way to confuse the two on store shelves.
For $8.99 this was another fun nuanced coffee to reach for if you want a change to your usual brew. Perhaps after drinking the entire box of Electric Buzz coffee, this tastes so much better. This is a coffee should reach for if you like a bright acidity and enjoy a bit of nuanced flavors. But if you like it, you'll want to pick up a few as the small lot coffees you'll only see on shelves for a limited time.
