While a 57 Chevy Cocktail might sound like a classic drink recipe, this recipe might be a bit more recent than it sounds. But the end result is a smooth and balanced drink of pineapple juice, Southern Comfort, Vodka, orange liqueur, and Amaretto.
Despite its yesteryear style name, it does have a lot in common with the old time cars: it’s smooth and colorful. I mean, pink cars haven’t made a full comeback just yet.
And besides, if you’ve been following this blog you know that I enjoy a well balanced cocktail. And like the old car, this goes down smooth. How this drink got its name seems a bit lost to history behind the bar.
Nonetheless, all 57 Chevy Cocktail Drink recipes seem to have the following commonalities: pineapple juice, southern comfort, vodka (or other strong spirit). I found the Amaretto to round out the flavors here and the Grand Marnier also balanced things out.
Tips for Making This
Here are my best tips for making this 57 Chevy Drink:
- Always use high quality ice
- This is a shaken drink, so you’ll need a cocktail shaker
- This can be served up or on the rocks.
- The amount of pineapple juice can be decreased resulting in a stronger tasting cocktail

What if I Don’t Have Southern Comfort on hand?
Then don’t worry. If you have bourbon it is pretty close if you are in a pinch. Or you can check out this DIY Southern Comfort recipe. It won’t be exactly the same, but nothing homemade ever really is.
What if I Don’t Have Grand Marnier?
Since Grand Marnier is an orange liqueur, then you can swap that out for Cointreau, Grand Gala, Triple Sec, or Orange Curacao. I would skip Blue Curacao on this, the taste would be close however the color will be way off. Perhaps it will make it a new drink.

Step 3: Add a splash of grenadine.

This reminds me of a much better version of the cocktails I used to stir up in college. I must try it!
This is one beautiful drink. Now I can’t resist asking what is “good quality ice”?
Great question. So I live outside of NYC. Our water is great. However I know people have hard water so in that case I’d always recommend getting store bought or making ice with bottled water. The ice does have a huge impact on the final drink. Thanks so much for asking!
Thank you for taking time to explain.
