During the winter holiday season I noticed Trader Joe's Mini Quiche Duo . As quickly as they appeared in the freezer aisle, they seem to have disappeared like so many other well done products. Sadness about that product aside, I decided to be adventurous and try the much larger Trader Joe's Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche. It's closer to being full sized. Good enough for 1 person or two if you have a side that you'll serve with it.

The pros:   Trader Joe's Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche  had a nice flaky crust out of the toaster oven, loaded with broccoli and had a nice cheesy taste.

The cons:  While the directions for Trader Joe's Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche say you can put this in the microwave, I think you might end up sacrificing the quality of the pastry crust here. Nutritional information is a bit of a bummer after knowing it tastes so good.

The verdict:  For $2.29 you get a single quiche in the package. While Trader Joe's Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche does not look big, it is quite filling. I started off preparing this in the toaster oven. Unfortunately, the microwave can be so very unkind to pie crust.

So I gave this the best chance possible. The quiche was cooked thoroughly in the suggested 24 minutes. After allowing it a few moments to cool, I cut into it revealing how cheesy and full of broccoli it is.

Unfortunately, if you are planning on eating this solo, this dish will represent almost your entire day's worth of saturated fat (and more than a third of some of the other not so good stuff). Nutritional points aside, what you are getting here is pretty tasty.

Surprisingly, broccoli still had quite a bit of texture. Unsurprisingly, there is egg in this, but it does not manage to overwhelm this dish. The egg is placed more as a binder than the star. The cheddar cheese adds a nice amount of salt in the dish. For a frozen quiche, this is darn good.

And to compare it to a fresh one would be completely unfair. Overall, I'd buy this again.

Would I buy Trader Joe's Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche again?  For me this is a yes. Why? Since it was filling or it can be cut in half and shared. If you are planning on sharing you'll probably want something else to go with it. It was a well done quiche. It's not going to make the weekly list, but it is something nice to keep in the freezer.

I always have a couple boxes of these quiche (though usually the spinach mushroom and cheese one) in the freezer. I'm still mad they discontinued the mexicaine one as that was my favorite.

Interestingly enough since my oven is on the fritz the last one I made I did in the toaster oven and 24 minutes was too long. The top and crust ended up burning.
