The baking season is nearly upon us and I think a lot of people want to make things extra special. So whether you are participating in an office bake-off or preparing something to enjoy at home then this is something you might want to stock up on.
The taste
I tested this a couple of ways: first, with any baking chip, I popped a few in my mouth, and then I substituted them in a chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Well, after a small mouth full of the chips, I realized these were delicious.
Like buttery, sweet-salty goodness that melted so nice and easy.
After a mouthful, the possibilities started in my mind: cookies, brownies, pretzels, and a fondue dip.
And naturally, since these are baking chips I had to see how they baked.
There was no weird browning which can happen with lighter-colored baking chips. I used a chocolate chip cookie recipe (not on the bag) and substituted the salted caramel chips for the chocolate chips called for.
Out of the oven, these cookies were addicting. It added that extra punch of saltiness
These would make a fantastic addition to brownies, blondies, a pretzel coating, or one of many uses I haven't thought of yet.
Packaging
The packaging is pretty standard here. However, they have updated the packaging from last year and it is readable.
Where to buy
This is available during the Fall/Winter season at Trader Joe's.
Overall
For $2.99 this is a great find (yes, it was priced at $2.49 last year). The only chips that I've seen that are similar are made by Hershey's but I felt that Trader Joe's made the superior chip.
I really enjoyed this and I'm totally disappointed that this item is a seasonal item. So there will be some mild stocking up for the rest of the year.
If you enjoy the taste of salted caramel this is a total hit.
Trader Joe's has updated all of their other baking chips products recently as well.
Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Caramel Sea Salt Baking Chips again. I hope they consider bringing this back next season or adding this to the lineup.

You forgot to post the actual product! What it does actually looks like!
I could coat apples with these. A hybrid of caramel & chocolate apple.

I agree about the packaging. I was looking for them and they were hard to find. But they are delish right out of the ugly bag. I've started the recipe on the TJ's website with cocoa and added a little espresso. The dough has to be refrigerated for an hour before baking so I am anxiously awaiting the finished product.

Hi Kathy! Unfortunately not. You can probably check amazon to see if there are any 3rd party sellers who have them.
