If New Yorkers do three food items well it is bagels, pizza, and cheesecake. Most people know Junior's cheesecake. I personally prefer a complete hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere called Cascon Cheesecake. Others in the neighborhood always raved about La Cheesecake. In either case, the good cheesecake was never far away.
Review and Taste
Since moving to Westchester, I haven't found a hole in the wall with phenomenal cheesecake yet. But I am on the hunt.
But in the meanwhile, I picked up Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite. While I appreciate bite-sized anything, those bites better be knock you off your socks type of good.
This set was ok. Maybe my comparison point is just a bit too high for cheesecake. But at the end of the day, they pretty much reminded me of the DIY Oreo refrigerated cheesecakes that you make at home from a box. Not bad, not nothing to run to the store and get.
Each bite followed the same formula of cookie on the bottom and whipped cream on top.
Maple Vanilla Cheesecake
This was my second favorite of the bunch. It was packed with maple flavor and had a caramel drizzle to it. The cookie was pretty plain with a hint of maple. Not a bad thing to avoid overwhelming the palate.
Gingersnap Spice Cheesecake
So I'm no fan of ginger, but that doesn't mean you won't like it. These are spiced and a bit spicy from the ginger. They taste like gingersnap, just not a personal favorite of mine.
Peppermint Cheesecake
These were probably my favorite out of the bunch. The base reminded me of a Thin Mint cookie, but much denser. The cheesecake was minty, but the swirl of whipped cream didn't add much. Not a bad little bite.
Overall
For $5.99 it's not a bad set, just one that wasn't worthy of repurchase in my book. Here are my thoughts on each flavor.
Would I buy this again? For me, Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite is a one time purchase.

I thought it's pretty good. Nice holiday dessert table. I saw a new chocolate gnocchi! Weird. I might give it a shot soon.

I am so sad that these are only "Ok". Even though I live on the west coast now I'm an East coaster at heart and nothing is quite like a good New York style cheesecake. I have had Junior's Cheesecake and it's pretty darn good but as you said I have found slightly better cheesecakes at little hole-in-the-wall patisseries. I find myself jonsing for a good New York/French style cheesecake. And if you haven't had an Italian cheesecake you've got to try it. I saw these Trader Joe mini cheesecakes on a website and was kind of excited due to the variety and portion control aspect. I will most likely still try them. I have a super love ginger so I'm kind of excited to at least try those.
