If there was the one-holiday product, that I wish I could go back to is review because it would have been helpful, were the Mini Peppermint Meringues. I loved and adored them. They were delicious, crisp, and melted in your mouth like it never happened. And for the most part, you could have had a relatively large serving of them and still felt pretty guilt-free. Best of all, they were straight-up excellent. Now, we have Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Cocoa Meringues to add to our carts.

Taste and review

To be honest, I haven't even got to review the standard vanilla ones that are sitting around on store shelves year-round. To me, those tasted like Lucky Charms marshmallows. But they had more of a melt-in-your-mouth feeling when you ate them.

These, they spoke to me. They said the word "chocolate." And I answered the call.

Now, to be clear on some differences, these are big. So these aren't ones you pop in your mouth with no regrets like the peppermint. And they seem a touch larger than the vanilla ones too. Each one seemed like 2-3 bites.

Unlike the vanilla ones, this didn't remind me of a marshmallow flavor. Nope, these reminded me of a cookie. Almost chocolate chip cookie-like.

They have little mini chocolate chips in each one, plus there is a good amount of cocoa flavoring each one of these. But they also melt in your mouth. But that's because a meringue for the most part is just sugar and egg whites. Thus they are also labeled as being gluten-free.

I wasn't complaining. Plus, three of these make for a serving. Those three large meringues are also just 90 calories.

And three is sufficient to scratch the itch of wanting something sweet.

Overall

For $3.69 these aren't bad. They aren't totally guilt-free, but still better than reaching for a box of cookies.

Would I buy this again? I'm more likely to reach for Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Cocoa Meringues than I am a box of cookies. Just as much sugar, just less guilt at 30 calories each.

Did you try it?  Let me know what you think in the comments section!

I would love to see a lemon or any citrus flavor! That would be delightful. It like having lemon meringue pie minus the graham. I recalled that TJ's discontinued the meringues for a while because their supplier couldn't continue it and went bankrupt. The irony of the supplier was Miss Meringue which is now no longer in businesses. I hope they do expand with more creative flavors.

Hey Alek! Thanks for the details on that. I had no idea that was the story. And yes, I totally hope they get creative with those. That would be amazing!

This is so funny..... I bought a tub of these last night. They are yummy. Overall I really like meringues and I'm with Alek on wishing that they would come out with some inventive flavors. Maybe key lime pie....crystalized lime juice and Graham cracker crumbs?

Hey Dag! I really like them too. But I agree with you both, meringues are such a blank canvas so much room for flavor on this one. I like your thinking on the key lime pie one! I could always post a recipe too. Thanks so much for suggesting this!

I LOVED these but that's because they taste exactly like the marshmallows in my favourite cereal as a kid - Count Chocula! 🙂

I tried these for the first time, both the chocolate and vanilla. I love )them both! I didn't realize when I bought them how low calorie they are. I've never made meringue before, and I'm pretty sure rather than try and fail I'll just get them at Trader Joe's. Very nice surprise, and the chocolate satisfies that craving. Not only that, I'm satisfied with just 1, maybe 2. A great alternative to my cookie addiction!

Hey Ali! I think this is one of the best desserts for the calories too. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and share!

A friend brought mine from America. I enjoyed them immensely before I even knew about the calories.. this made them even more delicious. They are very crunchy which makes them so satisfying I can only eat one with a cup of coffee.

Yum! These are great and I’ll get them again. Hard to believe that they are only 30 calories a piece. I would say there are at least 75 calories a piece that’s how good they are.

I am mind-blown that they cost $3.69 per package in-store, and I have been paying $12 each OR 2/$18-21 on Amazon! I’m thinking that the 1-hr drive to a store would be the financially responsible thing to do & sooo worth it!

How long is their typical shelf-life? Any idea how many I could buy and safely hoard at once? Lol. Thanks!

Hey Melissa! So here is the thing with meringues, they are super sensitive to humidity. So once they are open they should be consumed within 2 weeks. I haven't been able to find anything about store-bought ones and how long they might last. I hope that helps.
