The pros:  Trader Joe's Classic Hamburger Buns are basic buns.

The cons:  These are completely average hamburger buns.

The verdict:

Soon summer will be upon us which means it will be BBQ season. I love a burger as much as the next person. My absolute favorite burger location is Shake Shack. Yes, their burgers are good as is the special sauce. The last time I went in they had just gotten a delivery of buns. Their secret? Martin's Potato Rolls. Not Trader Joe's.

For $2.29 you are getting 8 of the most average hamburger rolls I've had. Usually, I get excited about items from Trader Joe's because they are so adventurous. These however, they reminded me of the Wonder Bread equivalent of Hamburger Rolls. They absorbed liquid from the burger a bit too quickly and as a bread, it was just wasn't overly flavorful. Even the sesame seeds did not add much to them. So with BBQ season ahead of us, feel free to skip these or adjust your expectations when you buy them. I've tried a lot of things I've liked from the bread aisle. While I didn't hate this, I didn't love it either. It's a shame too. With Trader Joe's I expect to be "wowed." Their Brioche is so awesome, that I can't figure out why they couldn't make those into buns. Seriously, the last time I made burgers, I toasted two slices to Brioche and it was awesome. The brioche is far better than what you are getting here.

Would I buy this again?  Nope. I've had better and I'm happy to stick with another brand from another store.

Burger and dog buns are summer necessities. We don't eat hot dogs, but burger buns are necessary, fur sure! I have a pan that is supposed to be used to make Muffin Tops, so I used that to make burger rolls. Good tip about the potato rolls. I make potato bread, so plan to branch out in that direction for my next batch of burger rolls. Thanks for the tip off!

    Virtual hugs,

    Judie
