The Fall brought us Trader Joe's Apple Caramel Granola, this winter we have been graced by yet another seasonal granola variety. This is Trader Joe's Gingerbread Spice Granola. But if you loved the sweetness of the Fall's seasonal granola, I'm not sure you are going to like this. And yes, this granola is vastly different from the Peanut Butter variety that is on shelves year-round.

Taste and review

And that isn't to say that this is bad. This is just a very different type of granola. If you loved the sweetness, you might be taken back by how not sweet tasting this granola is.

In fact, it's spicy. If you thought this was going to take like a cookie, you might be a bit off. Because this granola brings the heat. So don't let that cute gingerbread clear area on the bag confuse you.

This is just a little sweet, brings the ginger flavor, and adds some pecans for a bit for added crunch.

But I found the secret to enjoying this item to be written right on the back of the bag.

This product was just ok at room temperature but really shined when heated up. Several people suggested this to me before I even had a chance to try it.

They weren't kidding. This makes an awesome breakfast. Or snack if you so choose. My husband ate this right from the bag. I was going to get to this review much earlier, but I was left with a few crumbs at the bottom of the bag.

Needless to say, this has been purchased a few times at this point.

He likes it straight from the bag and I've been enjoying it a bit more as oatmeal that I really don't find myself adding anything to other than just simple almond milk.

Overall

For $3.49 this has been a good option in my household to keep on hand. Not that there isn't a decent amount of calories in this, but it reduces the number of really sweet items that end up in my kitchen this time of year.

It would be nice if there are ginger/gingerbread yogurt to match up. Make a parfait of it. I predict we will be seeing a mixed berry granola next season.

Some people have recommended certain seasonal yogurts to mix in. I'm not a fan of yogurt, so I'm happy to let others do the experimenting! Thanks so much for stopping by!

This gave me two ideas . . . one is that I should try adding a bit of minced ginger to my cooked five-grain cereal in the morning, and two, my granola might benefit from a shake or two of dried ginger, or maybe some finely chopped crystalized ginger. The heat is fun, but deceivingly sneaky in use.

Hey Judie! I can't wait to see what you pick up in January! Granola is also an easy homemade item. Totally worth putting some ginger into your homemade variety!

Oh my gosh I'm so glad you enjoy this too. I am on my second bag and just love it. I have sprinkled it over yogurt and also just eaten it out of the bag. I have yet to try it heated up. I will probably do that this weekend. For true Ginger lovers this is the product for you.

I was a bit skeptical about trying this, due to the 'spicy' factor, but since I like ginger, I picked them up today anyway! I ate right from the bag tonite and it was hard to stop! Not too spicy...but a little kick for granola for sure. I also like the fact that they aren't high in fat like many other granolas are--4 grams compared to like 12 or more...def. a hit for me!!! Thanks for the review....

I’m excited to try this! Heading to TJs tomorrow so I’ll pick some up- i adore anything with ginger, those tripe ginger snaps that come in a tub are my favorite cookie ever, and candied ginger is a standby sweet snack for me 🙂 i have a yogurt with fruit and a sprinkle of granola most mornings so this will be a nice change from the usual
