The pros:Â Trader Joe's Grilled Cauliflower is one of a number of cauliflower options available in the freezer aisle. This is also priced the same as Trader Joe's Rainbow Cauliflower.
The cons:Â While priced the same as Trader Joe's Rainbow Cauliflower, this is not organic. This also wasn't as good either.
The verdict: Â If I had to pick one item to be Trader Joe's food item of the year, it might have to be cauliflower. Now, this is not a new product. In fact, it adds to an ever growing line of cauliflower infused products. Odds are that if you are picking this up, you know very well that time is an issue.
Making cauliflower isn't difficult. But I'm not sure this was the best way to do it. When I saw grilled cauliflower, I really thought there would be some even grilling. But there isn't. It's random corners on random size pieces of cauliflower.
Once you add in the fact that they are frozen and you are reheating a previously grilled item, I think it loses something. If this had been sliced differently, I think the outcome could have been more successful. I heated mine in the oven.
The result wasn't bad. But it wasn't nearly as good as it could be. The texture was ok, but there is something about reheating a grilled product. Fresh off the grill, things can be amazing. Heat it a second time and some of the magic is lost.
Now, I like the rainbow cauliflower. It wasn't grilled at all. None of the colors made a difference in terms of taste. Odds are you have a way of getting a char on your cauliflower: your broiler. A broiler is basically an upside down grill. If you want that fresh charred taste, it is more attainable at home. If you like roasted, then bake it just a bit longer.
For $2.99 this wasn't bad. But it wasn't great either. With it already grilled, it's easy, but not necessarily the best. If you are going to put this in the oven, why not just roast it a bit longer to ensure caramelization? Or at least some fresh char.

Do you think this would be good pureed to make a soup? Would it bring any additional flavor opposed to regular cauliflower?

It's possible it could. I prefer the rainbow cauliflower but can't imagine what color that soup might be.

Lol..... with the rainbow cauliflower it could very well end up being a unicorn colored soup.
