The pros:Â Trader Joe's Ground Buffalo Burgers are uncooked burgers in the freezer aisle. They are individually wrapped.
The cons: Only 3 burgers come in a pack and these are more expensive than Trader Joe's frozen beef burgers. Very high in saturated fat.
The verdict: Â What did the buffalo say to his son before he departed for college? Bison. Poor joke aside, whether you refer to it as buffalo or bison, it is referring to the same thing. The question is are these any good?
For $10.99 you get three patties that are shaped and individually wrapped. Trader Joe's also sells regular burgers that are less expensive. The question is whether or not you feel the premium is worth it. There is a slight taste difference between beef and bison. Texturally, buffalo has more texture when cooked. Usually, buffalo is more lean, however this is an 80/20 blend which means there is a good amount of fat on it, which is perfect for grilling. It's beefy with more sweetness.
I defrosted these in my refrigerator overnight and grilled them using Trader Joe's Hardwood Briquettes. They came out tender and smoky. Overall, for a dinner I would spend the money. However, if you are planning on a large family cook out, this is not the most economical option. It is a tasty option.
I've purchased these several times and will likely enjoy them a few more times before summer is done. They are worth a try. They are similar to beef, so it will be a matter of personal preference.

Would I buy this again? Â While these are tasty when cooked, I can't say I noticed a difference between bison and beef. To save calories and money, I'll stick with the beef.

Hey Stephen! I used a pair of scissors to trim around the edge of the burger to remove them. I hope that helps for next time!
