The pros: Â Trader Joe's Habanero Lime Tortillas sound intimidating but they are flavorful and just hot enough.
The cons: Â True spice junkies will likely be disappointed in the heat level in this product. I did not find this product to be very hot. They only come in the larger size.
The verdict: Â A coworker of mine said to me, "You reviewed the handmade tortillas, but have you tried the Habanero Lime ones?" I took her advice months ago and now I have a new staple in my household (Thanks Cristina). For $2.69 you are getting 10 very flavorful tortillas.
Now, I've had some family members who ate one single Habanero pepper on a dare, to painful and disastrous results. In fact, if you search YouTube there are a number of people who have recorded themselves eating the hot pepper. Both members of my family debated going to the emergency room. For that reason, I hesitated when buying these. When I had my first bite the heat to me was mild and pleasant. When placed on a griddle to make a quesadilla, it tempered the heat profile even more. However, it opened the aroma of the lime and pepper to something far more pleasant. Somehow that little touch of flavor makes all the difference. In fact, this is now our go to tortilla. I always keep at least on package in the house. They can be store in the refrigerator if you are going to wait just a bit longer after buying.
Overall, these are very much worth a try. They would make taco night something to remember in a good way and without the threat of going to the emergency room. This product is very flavorful and reasonably priced.
