Trader Joe's and macarons have always been a surprisingly strong pairing. Over the years they have offered everything from pumpkin macarons to mango, Christmas varieties, molten center versions, and the classic chocolate and vanilla boxes that never fail. Their freezer aisle macarons consistently deliver that delicate chew and creamy center without the sticker shock that comes with buying them at a boutique shop.
Enter the Heart Shaped Macarons. These seasonal cuties arrived just in time for Valentine's Day and promptly disappeared just as quickly. They were adorable, well priced, and a fun twist on the traditional round style. If you blinked, you probably missed them. If you bought them, you probably ate the whole box. No judgment here.

Review
At $5.99 for a box of eight, these macarons were an easy yes from a value perspective. Compared to a shop like Laduree where eight macarons run over forty dollars, the Trader Joe's version felt like a small luxury at a very friendly price.
These were slightly larger than the regular Trader Joe's variety pack macarons, and the heart shape made them instantly more charming. Inside the box you got two flavors: vanilla creme and raspberry creme. Simple, classic, and done well.
The vanilla creme macaron tasted very much like the vanilla macaron shells from the regular variety box, but the filling was richer, creamier, and closer to a soft ganache. The added pink sugar crystals brought a nice pop of texture without making the bite overly sweet.
The raspberry creme macaron delivered a sweet and slightly tangy filling that carried most of the flavor. The shell itself did not have a noticeable raspberry flavor, but the filling more than made up for it. The result was balanced and very satisfying.
A quick note on origin. These were made in Belgium, while most of Trader Joe's macarons are made in France. That did not affect the quality in any negative way. The shells were delicate but not brittle, and the fillings had just the right consistency once fully thawed.
Texture matters with macarons, and these delivered. Once defrosted, the outer shell had the classic light snap, the inside had a soft chew, and the fillings were velvety without being heavy. I had no issue finishing a box by myself, and I might not have shared even if I tried.

Serving Suggestions

- Serve with coffee or espresso for a quick dessert moment
- Plate them for a Valentine's Day brunch
- Add to a dessert board with chocolate covered strawberries and truffles
- Use them as a topper for chocolate mousse or ice cream

Final Thoughts
Trader Joe's Heart Shaped Macarons were a charming seasonal find with two classic flavors that delivered far more than the price tag suggested. They were pretty, well made, and just the right size for a sweet treat without feeling heavy. If these return, they are absolutely worth grabbing again. The value alone makes them a no brainer, and the texture and flavor hold their own against far pricier macarons.
Until then, the classic Trader Joe's vanilla and chocolate macarons or the variety box remain excellent everyday alternatives.

I tried these and I liked it a lot. These are a great change for a standard box of chocolates. The flavors are amazing. Wish they did chocolate strawberry flavor. I hope they expand macarons with new flavors like key lime or smores.
