I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's Macarons. And they've offered quite a selection of macarons over the years.
At one point they used to sell frozen macarons that you heated up at home to have a molten center. Or they've had various seasonal varieties ranging from pumpkin to mango to Christmas seasonal ones.
The year-round varieties are the vanilla and chocolate variety or the variety pack.
All of them were pretty solid. If you like the flavor mentioned on the box then there was usually little to complain about.
Especially not the price. If you've ever been to a macaron shop like Laduree, then you are aware that you'll need to get your wallet open. And open wide. A box of 8 macarons on their website will set you back $30. Want a box of 20? That will be $70.
Taste
So when Trader Joe's sells a dozen for about $5, then consider yourself lucky.
With a proper amount of defrosting time, these are delicious.
While there are only 2 flavors in the box they are really good. I had no problem polishing off a box on my own.
Not only are the flavors pretty solid these are larger than the regular varieties and a perfect heart shape there are only 8 in each package. But by weight, you are basically getting the same amount.
The only other key difference here is flavor and where these are made. This particular variety is made in Belgium whereas all the other macarons have been made in France. But the creme fillings were pleasant without being overpowering. They were somewhere between a ganache and frosted middle.
The vanilla creme was very similar to the vanilla shell found in the vanilla and chocolate box. The biggest difference being the shape and filling which I found to be delicious. The extra pink sugar added just a touch of extra crunch.
The raspberry creme was just as good. In this case, it was the filling that flavored the macaron. I didn't get a distinct raspberry flavor from the shell.
Overall
For $4.99 these are a bargain and are worth trying even if it is just for you.
Would I buy this again? If I could buy Trader Joe's Heart-Shaped Macarons I would. However, this is a seasonal offering. I hope to see this again next year with a better supply.

I tried these and I liked it a lot. These are a great change for a standard box of chocolates. The flavors are amazing. Wish they did chocolate strawberry flavor. I hope they expand macarons with new flavors like key lime or smores.
