Let's say you love ice cream, but ice cream doesn't love you. Well, if you want a dairy-free option then Trader Joe's Out of this World Ice Pops is a solid one. And yes, these do look like a dupe of the more commonly found bomb pop.

Review

As a kid, I remember the heat and humidity of an NYC summer. And the joy of hearing the ice cream man come through the neighborhood. Where I grew up we didn't have a Mr. Softee. We had Steve the ice cream guy.

For some odd reason, whenever he pulled up I always asked for an Italian Ice. And these red, white, and blue pops remind me a bit of those little containers. But if you've ever had a Bomb Pops then Trader Joe's offers a bit of a more natural option.

The three layers do offer distinct flavors, but the blue layer is the faintest. Lemon is sometimes the strongest because it pairs well with the other two flavors.

The Blue layer isn't a blue from blueberries, because that would be pretty much purple. The blue comes from spirulina. And honestly, that layer ended up tasting more like the lemon layer. Almost absent the blueberry flavor. Maybe more so after trying Trader Joe's Blueberry Dream Bars.

But these were still solidly fruity and tasted fresh, and after the summer we've been having here in NYC, they are still a welcome reprieve.

Now there are no discernable bits of fruit to talk about. This is a bit more in line with what you might make at home using molds and fruit juice or lemonade.

Looks like a bomb pop, it just isn't full of artificial colors and this is way more naturally flavored. So if you have kids at home, you won't have to worry about any artificial dyes.

The packaging

Inside the box are six pops, each individually wrapped in plastic.

Overall

Would I buy this again? Trader Joe's Out of this World Ice Pops reminded me of frozen lemonade with a strawberry tip. But that is nothing to complain about in my book. So yes, I would buy these again.
