By the end of 2019, I'll do another best-of list. This year has been full of hits and misses and a heck of a lot of just ok products. Now, to be fair we haven't even hit the Fall/Winter season when they hit us with the best of the best items. But in the meanwhile, you better believe that Trader Joe's Pimento Cheese Dip will make the list of best of.
Taste
Now don't get me wrong. This looks a lot like another product on the surface level. If you are thinking about Trader Joe's Pub Cheese, then you know the product that I'm talking about.
The pub cheese is nothing fancy and yet strangely delicious. It has the consistency of cream cheese and yet is nothing but cheesy goodness.
Here when I cracked open this dip, it reminded me of pub cheese. And yet, it was very different.
So at its base, it is still like a pub cheese, but chunkier and more spreadable. There are nice crumbles of extra sharp cheddar cheese amping up the cheese flavor. Plus, this seems saltier than regular pub cheese.
When I had my husband try this, his commentary made me giggle. He said, "You know what this reminds me of Kraft." I told him, "It has the cheddar cheese in a can taste." To which he agreed.
But if you go through the ingredients, it is quite a bit richer. This is actually a mayo-based dip. And best of all, you can add this to your low carb or keto list because you are only looking at 1 single carb per serving.
Now, the pimentos are the x-factor here. Either you love them or you hate them. But in either case, they brought on a whole new layer of flavor.
As for consuming this, I tried this straight out of the refrigerator and I warmed it a bit up in the microwave. I personally prefer this in its natural state. The tiny bits of cheddar cheese really made this dip stand out.
It added texture. The cheese dip was thinner but no less enjoyable. And don't kid yourself, when I say thinner I'm not talking about Trader Joe's Queso Dip thin. It just isn't as thick as the pub cheese. But regardless, the ultimate measure of how much you like something is how often you go back.
Overall
Some things you try and a bite is sufficient. With this, I kept going back for more salty, cheesy, and roasted pepper bites.
For $3.99 this is a solid buy. And yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Pimento Cheese Dip again.

Maybe it would be great in mac & cheese. A dollop of it.

I absolutely love this product. It is excellent on just a toasted English muffin but I love it even more as a pimento cheese roasted chicken quesadilla! Also makes an excellent heirloom tomato and pimento cheese quesadilla.

I grew up eating pimento cheese sandwiches and my Dad made the best pimento cheese and this was such a close representation that I don't think my Dad would have been able to tell the difference. Lets just say that I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the pimento cheese dip but since I don't do white bread anymore I had to get crackers to eat the pimento cheese on but this will be a regular buy for me at Trader Joe's.

Hey Rena! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this. I was pleasantly surprised at it too but a lot of people reached out to me and mentioned how good it was. They were spot on too. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to stop by and share!
