The pros: Trader Joe's Berries and Cherries Herbal Tea is a pleasant and fruity tea in a pretty decorative container.
The cons: Most boxed teas cost significantly less.
The new product aisle gets me every time. There hasn't been much there lately, but I'm sure in the coming weeks that will all change. I'm sure some time after Labor Day, it will be pumpkin season regardless of the outdoor temperature. But for right now there is a really lovely tea on the shelves if you like fruit flavored teas. It comes in a pretty tin can which helps to add to the price. Within the tin can are 20 tea sachets that are pretty triangles of tea.
When I opened the can there is a very distinct aroma: it smells just like Chambord. It has a distinct aroma of a liqueur even though there is no alcohol present in this product. If you've never had Chambord, then it is a raspberry liqueur. After allowing the tin to breath for a few seconds that smell dissipates but returns when the lid had kept the contents sealed.
I'm not really sure why the directions ask to you for two tea bags in order to make just 8 ounces of iced tea. My tea was a deep hue of pink and full of fruit flavors. There was a slight acidity from some of the fruit in this, perhaps from the apples, cranberries, and cherries but nothing too tart. It had a mild sweetness to it too. It seems sweet enough on its own without the need to be sweetened further. I even used one sachet to brew in a 20 ounce mug. That seemed the limit of one tea bag without the product being too diluted. But I certainly wouldn't use two in 8 ounces of water.
For $4.99, my only complaint is the price. This is a couple dollars more expensive that other teas that don't come in a tin. However, if you can repurpose the tins then it's a better deal. Good at any temperature and full of flavor. I really enjoyed this product.
