No, you aren't seeing double. Not too long ago I published a review on a product that is nearly identical packaging: Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter. Now, they've released Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Scrub to go along with the lotion which is mainly sold out as well as a seasonal product.
Review
Certain body products seem to go viral for Trader Joe's. For example, the Brazil Nut Body Butter and more recently the Facial Sunscreen were all over my social media feed. Why were they so viral? First, they were pretty good products. Second, they were very close dupes of other well-known and pricier products.
Some people did mention they thought the body butter had a stronger smell than my review mentioned. However, I can tell you the fragrance on this product is far stronger than the body butter. Perhaps it was amplified by the face I was in the shower when I tested it. But it was strong. I don't mind a strong fragrance but this was well into walking into a Yankee Candle type of strong.
Despite the smell, the product here is pretty good overall. Unlike the Lavender Body Scrub, this product has coconut and sunflower oil and is a sugar scrub, not a salt scrub. When you open it looks like it has small flecks of vanilla. However, those flecks are actually coconut shell powder.
And then there is the other issue: the Lavender Body Scrub is 20 ounces, while this product is 8 ounces. They are the same price.
But the end results are the same. Wherever you use it, the skin felt soft and exfoliated. My only disappointment here is the aroma of this. Otherwise, this is a solid product and is affordable at under $6. This too is likely seasonal, however, I haven't seen any product that is similar.
The packaging
Trader Joe's has absolutely doubled down on certain products with specific branding and colors. You know certain product lines with you see them: ube, anything in a pickle, everything bagel, and now the body butter.
The only major difference in terms of looks is the lotion had more of a reddish-pink top and this has a purple top. The scrub does have a pop top while the body butter needs to be twisted to open.
But again, if I wasn't paying attention it might be easy to grab the wrong container. I just got lucky because at my local Trader Joe's they seem to be sold out of the lotion.
Also, if you are hoping to open this in the shower, mine didn't have a pull tab to open it easily so you'll likely need a pair of scissors.
Overall
Whether you like this will likely depend on how much of a tolerance you have for the fragrance. I found it was strong and much stronger smelling than the lotion by the same name.
Would I buy this again? Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Scrub is at best a maybe. The Lavender Body scrub is a better value overall with a less assertive aroma.
