An unopened container of Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip

Trader Joe's has hit us with three new dips: Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip, Trader Joe's Black Bean Dip, and Trader Joe's Green Goddess Dip. So I figured I would start with this one since it is the most familiar.

Review

So every holiday making Buffalo Chicken Dip is my go-to item to bring to someone's house.

It's quick to throw together and with a handful of items that are easy to keep in the pantry or freezer and you will be ready to go.

At its most basic level, Buffalo Chicken Dip is often just chicken meat, cream cheese, hot sauce, and a dressing mixed together. Sometimes with a layer of cheese on top or sometimes mixed in.

Here this is cream cheese and sour cream. It also omits the vinegary tang of hot sauce. Which makes it taste like Buffalo-style hot wings minus any bones and the fatty layer of skin.

But when I make mine there is no question there are decent-sized chunks of chicken.

However, when trying this I was missing out on the real chicken taste. This is way more dip in the sense of smoothness. Because this dip had a strange texture whether I had it cold or warmed up.

It tasted as if it had been sitting in a food processor for far too long. Yes, the chicken was present but seemed like it had been obliterated.

If you are wondering about the heat, this only comes up to mild heat. Nothing really too spicy here. Yes, there is warmth, but nothing that would rise above that.

But the dominant taste and texture do end up being the sour cream which is a darn shame.

Frequently asked questions

Readers often ask these questions about Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip

How much is Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip?

The 12-ounce container costs $4.99.

Can you heat up Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip?

Yes, this can be microwaved for 2-3 minutes. Two minutes for half a package or three minutes for heating a full container.

How long does Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip last?

My best estimate would be to enjoy this within 3-5 days in the refrigerator.

Overall

For $4.99 this is a bit much for what this dip offers in terms of taste. Maybe in a wrap where we can up the texture level can be elevated this would be better.

Would I buy this again? Sorry, I don't see myself buying Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Dip again.

If they had kept chunkier chicken and maybe even put in a ovenable tray topped off with cheese that you bake it. Get it nice and bubbly might be a winner. They could do a cheesecake dip next.

It would make good snack food for when you are having drinks. Beer would pair well with this. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for sharing!

I brought this to work to share with co-workers and we actually thought it was rather spicy, but also, almost as good as homemade.
