So many holiday products to look forward to. However, even though I can't buy wine or liquor from a grocery store here in NY, I can buy these cherries for some reason. Trader Joe's Chocolate Liqueur Cherries only come around once a year. And that is if your state allows these to be sold.
Taste
These are so yummy and so many for the money. For $6.99 (prior to 2021 these were $5.99) you get 33 chocolate-covered cherries. These would make a great holiday gift or an after 5PM treat.
Worth a look for your over 21 stocking stuffers also. Have your ID ready when you buy these at Trader Joe's. The dark chocolate on these was delicious, but the star here is the filling. While these are not quite as alcoholic as Trader Joe's Brandy Beans, these should be saved for when you are positive you won't be driving.
These are different from the ones you might pick up on the grocery store shelf as they are missing that big glob of fondant. To be honest, I didn't miss it. The fondant is just an extra level of sweetness. These are just sweet enough. These are seasonal, so if you like them, stock up.
I looked forward to eating these. Probably a little too much. These would make a good gift for someone or a nice hostess gift (assuming they appreciate a good drink or at least a little bit of an alcoholic kick).
The chocolate is of good quality. The shells have a nice crisp snap to them. But the highlight here is the cherries and the juice are very good. I've had my share of boozy chocolates that just weren't well done or tasted of crystallized sugar. That is not the case here.
These are booze and dessert, but well balanced and well done.
The alcohol only hits you later in the whole sensory process. I ate one and said to myself "Why did I need ID for this?" By the time I thought that thought, I had answered my own question. I highly recommend this if you enjoy chocolate and alcohol together in a small dessert portion.
Overall
Would I buy these again? Trader Joe's Chocolate Liqueur Cherries are an annual purchase that I make in multiples. They are a really great stocking stuffer and great to keep on hand too.

Totally worth it. You don't realize there is booze in these until the end.

I live in East Texas. How do I get Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Liqueur cherries? They are not on Amazon!

Hey Lee! Unfortunately, there is a pretty good amount of alcohol in both the Chocolate Liqueur Cherries, Brandy Beans, and the assortment of Boozy Truffles which means those items probably would not be listed on Amazon because of the alcohol content and the inability to ID people. And yes, I got IDed buying all of those items. I'm pretty sure Amazon has some rules about selling products with alcohol.
