There is something special about the holidays and Trader Joe's. I'm not mentioning this because Valentine's Day is coming up. I'm reflecting on this past holiday season. As a foodie, going in there was almost as exciting as going into FAO Schwartz as a kid. Now kids won't even know what that is. Alas, Trader Joe's has found a way to extend the holidays for just a bit longer. And perhaps your waistline too.
Taste and review
So returning to shelves is this classic from last year.
I'm going to admit a truth that I feel some people don't talk about enough. Love can sometimes make you heavier than you already are. If it isn't the dinners, then it might be the desserts. Or watching too much Netflix together. Either way, between the holidays and Valentine's Day it's geared to break your will from your New Year's Resolutions.
I was truly sad when my last box of Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Stars and Mini Mint Stars were gone. They were both so very good. And oh so seasonal. When I saw this box, my heart lit up (perhaps by stomach too). I deeply hoped that they had just reshaped my beloved cookies.
They did. With one minor change. This isn't like the previous two products I mentioned in the fact that the center is neither mint nor plain shortbread. Nope. The center of this is a dark chocolate shortbread cookie.
Everything else remains the status quo. It's chocolatey, tasty, and crisp. With not too many nonpareils. There is just enough chocolate to coat the outside. The cookie is just the right thickness.
For $2.99 these are a great find, but I have a feeling they won't be on shelves too long. If you already miss Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Stars or Trader Joe's Mini Dark Peppermint Stars, then feel free to pick up a few.
Or perhaps as customers, we can rise up and demand Easter Eggs and Fireworks shaped cookies to get through the rest of the year. Ok, maybe not, but I do wish these could find a way to stay on shelves all year long.
Overall
In either case, these are tasty seasonal treats. If you see them and like them, then pick up an extra box as it will be a while until we see the next seasonal cookie of this variety.
If you can't make it to Trader Joe's then, you can find these on Amazon through third-party sellers.

I wish that they would flavor the cookie with raspberry. That would be divine!
PattiAnn says
These cookies are ok, but certainly do not replace mini mint stars. They need more flavor. I think the idea of adding a touch of raspberry would really change it up. Maybe I will make raspberry type dip to go with them😙
