The pros: Â Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nutty Bits are a well balanced snack that after a few bits are satisfying.
The cons: These don't look quite as pretty as the picture. I kept wanting to call them bites, instead of bits.
The verdict: Â Sweet. Salty. Crunchy. It's a great combination when done right. Here, this is done right. If you pick up Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nutty Bits you'll get a tasty snack. Best of all with the combination of ingredients used here it was so filling that there is no way you'll sit and eat the whole bag. However, I kept wanted to call these bites and not bits. These are one or at most two bite snacks.
In this resealable bag you get single bites of dark chocolate coated nuts that are held together with a slightly salty caramel. The nuts are a mix of almonds, cashews, and pistachios. I felt like the vast majority of each bite was almonds with the pumpkin seed adding a slightly different texture. While a serving size is only 3 pieces, I actually found that I could stop after eating three of these. These snacks were unusual in the fact that I actually felt satisfied after eating three.
It's not that they weren't good, but these will actually fill you up in a way that some other snacks might not. For $3.99 these were some of the longest lasting (and a snack I didn't mind reaching for) bites that I've had around the house in a while. Some snacks are diet killers were you can't stop. But this was just enough sweetness to kill that craving. It was both salty and sweet. The chocolate was a very pleasant dark chocolate but it's all about the contrast of salty and sweet that makes things a bit more tasty. Worth picking up if you want to try a snack that is a mix of salty, sweet, nutty, and filling.

Would I buy this again? As an occasional treat, Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nutty Bits were really tasty but not overly addicting. They were satisfying on so many sweet, salty, nutty, caramel levels.

I melt Trader Joe's dark chocolate, freeze, then break into bits. Can also make haystacks with coconut, or any kind of nuts. These are the most delicious and satisfying treat ever.

Wow those sound great! Any recipe posted for that?

I rarely cook with a recipe, so even less seldom have one to share. What I can say is that I usually melt nine squares of the chocolate bar at level 2 on my microwave for about 7 minutes, or maybe a bit less - depending on the microwave. If it isn't all melted, just stir it around a bit. Try not to overheat because the chocolate will seize (get grainy). It is better to under melt it and stir a bit.
Put in a bunch of shredded coconut and stir it around.
Plop out little bits onto parchment paper and put them into the refrigerator or freezer.
You can do this with any kind of whole nut, or chopped up bits of nuts - or even whatever else might strike your fancy - pretzels? I bought a bag of pretzel disks the other day. They would take well to dipping into the melted chocolate on one side. Just thinking out loud.
If you want to have your eyes roll back in your head, use BOTH coconut and chopped pecans!

And it looks like these are dairy free!! WooHoo! I make chocolate bark a lot myself like the other comment here- i add about one TB of coconut oil per 8oz chocolate when melting the chocolate which makes it smoother and adds a silky mouthfeel to the chocolate. I just spread the melted chocolate onto a baking sheet that i sprayed with coconut oil spray and sprinkle on top while still wet various nuts and seeds. I like using the salted nuts for the salty sweet thing but whatever you like.
These bites look great for an afternoon sweet treat that has some good for you fats and nice texture

So much healthier for a post-dinner "dessert" than a slice of pie or cake, or a cookie. And a great high-protein snack for the middle of the day. These and the sea salt, raw sugar dark chocolate almonds are my daily go-to option for satisfying my sweet tooth in the healthiest way possible.

Hey Tom,
I liked these quite a bit too. I couldn't agree with you more. My favorite part of this snack was that I couldn't sit and eat the whole bag because they were so filling. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! I really appreciate it.

These are great! However, when I went to get more at my local store- as opposed to the slightly further away one I got them at- they didn't have them, and the Hawaiian shirted gentleman I asked didn't know what I was talking about. Which is how I found this page- looking for validation that they do indeed exist.
Interesting premise for a page. I shall have a look and see if there is anything I don't know about and should. Thanks!
