The pros: Â Trader Joe's English Butter Fudge is a sweet candy confection that is actually made in England.
The cons:Â If you are into chocolate fudge, this might be a miss as the primary flavors are butter and sugar.
The verdict: Â It's not quite Labor Day yet, but I'm already looking forward to cooler weather. It's been a hot and steamy Summer in NY. I think it's the not sweating so much, being able to enjoy outside more, and the food that makes me look forward to the Fall weather.
Usually during the Fall I make foods that are more celebratory. One of which is fudge. I love making fudge. One recipe I adore is the one on the back of Marshmallow Fluff's container called Never Fail Fudge. There is no candy thermometer needed to watch. It basically works every time. However, that recipe is for a more familiar chocolate recipe. Trader Joe's English Butter Fudge has no chocolate at all.
Some of the ingredients are exactly the same. There are certain things that pretty much every fudge has: butter and lots of sugar. Without the chocolate this product was slightly gritty from the sugar here. Otherwise the flavor was all butter and sweet sugar. It was still the classic melt in your mouth feeling. The fudge is cut into small pieces which is a good thing. This item is quite sweet. For $2.99 this was a nice treat but if the flavor of just butter and sugar isn't doing it for you then it is ok to skip. Besides, there are a lot of calories in this. I liked it but would rather reach for the more traditional chocolate flavored variety.
