The pros:  Trader Joe's Gone Bananas is an easy and relatively healthy dessert.

The cons:  This is something that can be made at home using your favorite chocolate and some bananas.

The verdict:  Sometimes the simplest desserts are the best. We used to melt chocolate once a week and dip fruit into it. Had we chosen to place those dipped bananas into the freezer you would essentially have Trader Joe's Gone Bananas.

For $1.99 you are getting a box of 20 slices of chocolate covered banana pieces already for you. This is one of the least expensive desserts and is relatively low on calories. Each slice is evenly covered in a very thin coating of chocolate. That thin coating gives you a nice crunch out of the freezer. The bananas seemed a little overripe for my liking. I'm not sure if they were overripe because of the freezing process or they were made that way. The chocolate used did not seem overly sweet and was a good compliment to the ripe bananas. This product was best directly out of the freezer. Only take out what you need to make sure the texture of the banana stays frozen.

Now, there is a bit of controversy with this product. It may have been a vegan product, but based on the ingredients on the back of my package it is not. There are milk solids, so if you keep vegan I would say melt the chocolate you like, slice some bananas and freeze them. Then bag them for a future date.

Regardless, this product isn't bad, but wasn't one of my favorites. It is a good way to get people to eat more fruit. I tend to think covering things with chocolate makes everything better, but perhaps that's just me. Overall, this would not be difficult to make on my own. I'd rather put my money towards a dessert that would save me hours of work. Not a bad one to keep in your freezer if you have kids.

Here is the visual run down of what you get if you buy this product:

Would I buy this again?  I think Trader Joe's Gone Bananas was good, but if you have the time this can easily be made with a chocolate of your preference and get something just as good. Plus, if you are vegan you can enjoy something similar because this product is not vegan.

I'm definitely going to get these for my freezer. Great to pop in when I want dessert, but it's already bedtime kind of dessert!
