The Fall items have landed. The Fearless Flyer for September will land in less than two weeks but Trader Joe's has dropped what looks like a winter seasonal item on us. Yes, the Pumpkin Toaster Pastries are back. As much as I dig the pumpkin items, I do love a break from them as well.
Taste and review
This isn't the first time Trader Joe's had put a chocolate item as a seasonal item. I very much miss the chocolate chip waffles that I had two years ago but did not come back on shelves.
So while I deeply hope they will bring back that decadent breakfast treat, I have a new chocolate item to fill my morning chocolate cravings. If you are a chocolate fan and Pop Tart fan, then you'll probably like these.
Now, the only source of controversy here is the frosting. Some people love it, some hate it. In either case, I don't feel like it added much here.
But that is probably the only flaw here. I popped mine in the toaster and in a matter of 2 minutes the middle was molten in the best possible chocolatey way.
It had that chocolate lava cake flattened into a toaster pastry. The dominant note here is chocolate. For me, it was less hot cocoa but more deeply chocolate. This is a well-done product. If you've had a Pop-Tart then you are already familiar with what these are like: dense pastry with filling and a hard frosting.
Not a bad way to start your day.
Overall
For $2.99 these are worth keeping an eye out for. I'd absolutely recommend heating these. I often skip that step, but that melty center really made these that much more awesome.
Lastly, if you find yourself falling in love with the taste of these, then be warned that this is a seasonal item. So when it is off the shelves odds are the next time you'll see this is during the fall/winter holiday season.

Alek says
I wished the frosting was marshmallow flavored! That would tie in the whole hot cocoa concept.

Hey Alek! There wasn't much frosting on these, but it wouldn't hurt to put a dollop of whipped cream on them either. Thanks so much for sharing!
Timothy Cain says
I walked past these this morning, but because of your review, I’m going back for them next weekend. Thanks!

Hey Tim! They might be on the sweet side for your liking, but then again, it's still basically a Pop Tart. I'm curious to hear what you thing/see your review!

I can’t remember the last time i had a pop tart! These sound delicious, although probably too sweet for me for breakfast. There are so many tempting treats at the store right now!!

Hey Ttrockwood! This was good, but if you look at the nutrition label, yes, this has quite a bit of sugar in it! Thanks so much for stopping by!
