The pros: Â Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Lovers Chocolate Bar has the familiar flavor of milk chocolate that brought me back to my childhood. There are no strange ingredients in this. Just the ones you would hope to find in a chocolate bar.
The cons: The packaging looks very close to Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Lovers Chocolate bar. If you shop sleep deprived or without glasses, just be aware that the packaging is only slightly different however the tastes are miles apart.
The verdict: Â With Halloween almost upon us, I almost regularly get into candy discussions. Being in my mid thirties now, there are candies that we had during Halloween that no longer exist. Or don't taste as good as they did as a kid. One such candy that no longer tastes the same is Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar. I had one of those a few years ago and I was amazed that I ever enjoyed it in the first place. It tasted like wax with a hint of chocolate. My memories had me remembering a sweet chocolatey bar. There was nothing waxy about it.
Only recently did I stumble upon an article that dealt with this topic. While Today published the article in 2008, I don't think I've had a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar since that even comes close to what I thought it tasted like as a kid. However, having this bar brought me right back to being a kid. It really reminded me of the sweet and chocolatey candy bar that I've been longing to have since I was a kid. It was sweet and it did not taste waxy at all. It was chocolatey without the bitterness of dark chocolate. It's not nuanced in the way that dark chocolate is.
For $1.69 you are getting 2 individually wrapped bars in each package. You would be lucky to get two mass market chocolate bars for that price these days. Best of all, there was no fake chocolate taste to it. If you are a tried and true dark chocolate fan, then pass on this bar. Otherwise, a milk chocolate fan would likely like this bar.

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Lovers Chocolate Bar again. It hit the spot for both sweet and chocolate.

Very interesting! Although I am old enough to be your grandmother . . . truly . . . your comments about the flavor of milk chocolate in times gone by is spot on. As a kid in the 40's and 50's, milk chocolate was the only way to go. But somewhere along the line, that all changed, and dark, dark, dark chocolate became the desired one. I'd give it another go! ;->

I absolutely loved this chocolate but unfortunately they discontinued it a while ago. Stumbled upon your article while searching for what people think about this. I have tried so many other chocolate bars but nothing compares. Have you had any luck?

Hey Swati! I loved this bar too. Unfortunately I haven't found anything close yet.
