Trader Joe's Opera Cake Review Pin for Pinterest

The longer I'm at this blog, the more patterns I see. I've seen products come and go. And come back again. Sometimes after years of disappearing. If you are familiar with Trader Joe's A Dozen Sweet Bites, you might recognize this cake. In fact, Trader Joe's Opera Cake hasn't been on shelves in many years.

Taste and review

When I tried Trader Joe's Sweet Bites I fell in love with two of the varieties. We lucked out last year when Trader Joe's released the Macaron aux Framboises into freezer shelves. But as quickly as it appeared, it also disappeared.

In fact, one astute reader, Alek, pointed out that the item wasn't in fact new, but hadn't been seen since around 2011. Now we have Trader Joe's Opera Cake which has been on a hiatus for about that long.

What comes out of this box is just 8 pieces of cake. But unlike the bites, this is a larger serving. Perhaps three bites. But it is just a larger variety of what is sold in the Sweet Bite set.

This is essentially like a chocolatey Tiramisu cake. There are lots of delicious layers.

These layers are so thin that it is hard to tell them apart in each bite, yet the combination of them all yield a delicious dessert.

So if you are around people who are just pickish around dessert, this will probably satisfy that craving for something chocolatey and sweet. The coffee pairs so very well with the chocolate and highlights it nicely.

Since 2011 the price has gone up just a touch to $6.99, but this will make for a classy and delicious dessert that looks like it came from a French bakery. Probably because it did, just from France.

Overall

However, like my beloved Raspberry Macaron Aux Framboises Cake, I worry that this will be a final opus for an indeterminate amount of time. It has disappeared off of shelves before and I wouldn't be surprised if it does it again.

Would I buy this again? Yes, Trader Joe's Opera Cake is a very well-priced, delicious, and tasty dessert that looks and tastes far more expensive than it actually is.

Did you try it?  Let me know what you think in the comments section!

They should bring back the raspberry cake too. It's so good! Wished it was a larger size.

I loved the Opera cake but they took it away. Where can I buy it now?
