The pros:Â Trader Joe's Peanuts Go On A Date Bars are new, gluten free and keep it simple.
The cons: The dates on a warm date might not make an ideal snack.
The verdict: Â As we get toward the end of the school year we seem to go on more trips. We just need to get the kids out of the building. So as their teacher, there are always some type of snack bar sitting in my bag.
So, when a new one showed up on the end cap of Trader Joe's, I was excited. Now, this is gluten free and kosher if that is a need for you. These have nuts in them, so they will still exclude certain people. The ingredient list is just 5 items.
Who ever designed the packaging here had a good time doing so. Everything here revolves around the idea of a date because of the namesake ingredient.
However, on a taste level this was fine. This is mostly date with some of the nutty flavor of peanut butter, peanuts, and flaxseed meal. So imagine a peanut butter snack bar with the consistency of ground dates.
But on a practical level, this was a bit of a bad date.
You see, there is one thing here that is blatantly missing. This almost needs another coating of something on it. I ate one in a 70 degree house. My fingers were starting to get stick after a bite or two.
For a grab and go item, that is a big deal breaker. If I'm eating on the run, I'd like to not need wet wipes for my hands while I'm out and about. It defeats the purpose here.
For $2.99, the taste was ok, but the sticky nature of this bar makes me want to dump it. Sorry, this product just isn't going to work out for me.

Would I buy this again? No, I would not buy Trader Joe's Peanuts Go On A Date Bars again. They are simple but I hated having stick fingers after each a snack like this.

It would be interesting to know what the TJ writers write when they're off work?

They could be middle school teachers like myself for all we know. They humor is pretty corny, but sort of punny in a way. Thanks so much for stopping by!

These are so tasty! But, yeah.... not so great for on the go in warm weather. I bet they’re fine and not nearly as sticky in the fall and winter. I’ll buy them again since they’re exactly like larabars only much cheaper, makes a quick breakfast with some yogurt

You don't need to touch the actual bar while eating it and let your fingers get sticky... Just hold on to the wrapper.

Hey Redsox41! I understand that. But for people who might have kids where that might not be an option, it needed to be stated. Unlike the wrapped granola bars where it wouldn't have made a difference (wrapper vs no wrapper). I commented on what might not be obvious to someone else. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts.

I keep mine in the fridge in a small bin! Makes them much more dense.
