The pros:Â Trader Joe's Potato Pancakes are a really good breakfast/dinner option. This is a regular year round item.
The cons: If you don't care for the taste of onion, then reach for Trader Joe's Hashbrowns instead.
The verdict: Â I love breakfast, but I just wish I had more time in the morning to actually make something. I applaud those of you who can get up and just conquer your day. I know people who can get up, go to the gym, and just rock their day.
For me, it's the battle with the five or so alarms set in my phone and on an actual alarm clock. It doesn't matter how long I've been getting up early. I lose the battle to the snooze button each and every morning.
So with my natural grab and go morning, I like something that I can make and take to work. Most mornings I make Hashbrowns. On a weekend I might get into my bag of Shredded Hashbrowns which I can get extra crispy.
I ran out of both of those, so I dug through my freeze and found quite a few items that had been shoved to the back that I had long since forgotten about.
When I think of latkes, I tend to think of Hanukkah. This is actually a year round offering. While this is also a potato product there are some differences between this and the hashbrowns.
This has the texture closer to mashed potatoes with an onion flavor. There is matzoh meal for added texture. Each one is a few bites big. Apple sauce, sour cream, or even ketchup would be a good pairing here. This works as either a breakfast or just a hearty side.
The directions here are simple and straight forward and result in a crisp exterior.
For $2.49 these are worth picking up. There are 8 in a package and are well done with minimal mess.

Did you fry or bake these for your photo?

Hey Judie! I just baked them up in the toaster oven for the pictures. I did not think they needed to be fried again. Thanks as always for stopping by!

Those can be a great swap for sandwich breads. I can see pastrami being sandwiched there with a touch of mustard

Hey Alek! Now that is one heck of an amazing food combination right there. If only TJs sold pastrami that would lead to some amazing things! Thanks as always for taking the time to stop by and share!

I agree these are pretty good for frozen potato pancakes. Not as good as fresh but who is crazy enough to get up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and grate pounds and pounds of potatoes?! I love these topped with cheese. One time I got some of Trader Joe's pre-cooked bacon and then melted cheese on top. Another time when I was still with my last boyfriend I made pepper sausage gravy and poured that on top. Then to make it a true heart attack on a plate I melted some New York extra-sharp cheddar on the whole shebang. So incredibly awesom

Hey Dag! OMG that sounds so awesome. And yes, heart attack on a plate, but those tend to be the best meals! Thanks so much for sharing the delicious sounding combination!

Unfortunately TJs has discontinued the potato pancakes. I thought they were the best frozen latke available anywhere and I wish they’d bring them back.

Hi. This is third review I've read about Trader Joe's potato latkes and none of them showed the directions. I need to time my dinner tonight and let everyone know when to show up. For next time, directions would have been very helpful.

The directions are posted. See the nutritional information picture? Its right below the image. It's a little hard to read as the text is white on light blue. But it is there.
