The pros:Â Trader Joe's Raclette Sliced Cheese is not new, but is a divine find in the cheese aisle.
The cons: For me, this item was addicting.
The verdict: Â If you are like me, and have seen some really awesome food videos, this was an item that was instantly on my radar. For those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about here is a video about this cheese. While Trader Joe's isn't selling you the entire wheel, they are selling you some slices of this famed cheese.
Now, I had never had Raclette cheese previously so I had no idea what I was trying. All I knew was that those Insider Videos were drool worthy. So I gave it a go. While I was slightly bummed out they don't sell little wheels, the slices are way more practical. Each slice is considered a serving, but each slice is generously sized. This is best enjoyed melted (what cheese isn't?). Now that I've tried this, I'm pretty sure veggies in my home will never be quite the same. If you want company to enjoy their veggies that much more, then this is a quick and easy fix.
The cheese reminds me of a well made Swiss (minus the holes). It has a distinct nuttiness to it and doesn't become oily or greasy when melted. There is a subtle funk to it, but that goes away once it is melted. For $5.99 for half a pound, it's not cheap. But it's not outrageously expensive either. I enjoyed mine with a bag of Trader Joe's Roasted Potatoes with Peppers and Onions. I don't think I ever remember going back to pick at a side dish so much. That whole bag only used half of this package of cheese. While the servings said 9, my package did have a full 10 slices. I can honestly say this stood out and is well done. It's worth a try and will be back in my cart the next time I'm over at Trader Joe's.

This seriously looks so dreamy! I need this so much!!
It's worth a try!
I've never seen this before but now have it on my TJ's list. I wouldn't have thought to put it on veggies. What a great idea! Thank you!!!
I'm not sure what melted cheese doesn't make better. But yes, veggies it makes them so much better.
So, I spent two years as an artisan cheese buyer for a local gourmet shop while in college. My job was to stock our selection of cheeses and be available to make recommendations for purchases and dinner parties and catering events, etc. Raclette was one I always -always - recommended for parties, for the reasons you’ve described. Next time, try it with some cornichons - the richness of the raclette sets off the sour tang of those little pickles (which can also be purchased at TJ’s) SO WELL. Sigh. Good times. 😉
Wow. I never thought to put this on cornichons. I'll have to try that too. But that sounds like a great flavor contrast! I'm not sure there are many foods where melted raclette wouldn't work. Thanks for stopping by Lindsay and sharing your experience!
Tried this (exact combo) last night, and it was delicious!
I put the potatoes/peppers/onions in the oven at 400 (even though it didn't have that method on the bag) and it took FOREVER to heat up and get even close to right.
That said, once it was done and the stinky cheese was melted, it was delicious! Thanks for the suggestion!
Hey Ryan,
Glad you gave it a try and enjoyed it! I just tried it on some shredded beef and it was good too as part of a homemade Philly cheesesteak. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to share your thoughts!
I tried to find this at my local TJs last weekend and could not. I asked one of the staff and they said it was seasonal. I was pretty crushed! Luckily, they suggested trying Aldi, but before I could even get there, I found some at my local Wegmans.
Awesome! I purchased another one and put it in my freezer. Let me know how you like your local Wegmans Raclette. I'm curious to see how they compare. Happy New Year and hope you are staying warm!
