I remember the first time I went to Costco as a kid. It was a grocery store but smelled so much better. We went early as the first Costco by us was a considerable drive out to Long Island. But oh, the smell of the baked goods section. There are certain stores that the smell just hits you: the ravioli store where I grew up smelled of meats and cheeses, the chocolate store that smelled the way the chocolates tasted, and the fish store you knew that you should never go into.
And yes, the smell of the Costco bakery. It was intoxicating as a kid. As were the visual of pastries the size of your face. And then there were the calorie counts. Those were Costco sized too.
These are mini. These are a respectable amount of calories as well.
These are crisp puff pastry. Now, they were crisp because the timer went off and they were quite pale. I left them in longer to make sure they were golden and brown. When I say, I left them in I think it was almost an additional 5 minutes. But everyone's oven is different so go by color and not time.
Each pastry is essentially a puff pastry folded over some pastry cream in a similar pattern to Trader Joe's Brie en Croute. This just adds the additional raspberry filling.
Each bite around the edges was light, flakey, with a healthy dollop of raspberry filling in the middle. But beneath the raspberry filling is pastry cream for contrast. With the raspberry filling it isn't seedless, so that may or may not flow with some people's preferences.
For $3.99 this is a great item to keep on hand for dessert or breakfast especially if your regular pastry is going to be almost a day's worth of calories. Overall, good to keep around as it's more portion-controlled and most of the time many people just want a "bite."

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's 8 Mini Raspberry Pastries again. It's not something I would buy weekly but is a nice treat and a lovely addition to the frozen aisle.

These look like yummy a little treats. I haven't seen them yet at my Trader Joe's but then again I really haven't looked in that part of the frozen section in a while . Seems like they'd be good with a little bit of whipped cream on top of them.

I love love love these danishes and bought every week. My favorite thing at TJs. It's amazing that these danishes go directly from freezer to oven & turn out so beautifully flaky. They do indeed need more time in the oven than stated. The directions state 16 to 20 minutes, but they need a full 30 minutes. They turn quite a deep golden brown with layers of flaky pastry & develop a carmelized bottom. They need to get to this stage in order to offset the creme patisserie & raspberry jam and the flavor is devine. You don't get close to it in 20 minutes. And it's such a shame that the directions are so off because most people follow directions and the result was likely okay but not fab the best thing ever. And quite likely the reason they have now been discontinued. All because some major dingdong adapted the baking time incorrectly. THEY'RE GONE! Very sad face here.
