Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite

If New Yorkers do three food items well it is bagels, pizza, and cheesecake. Most people know Junior's cheesecake. I personally prefer a complete hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere called Cascon Cheesecake. Others in the neighborhood always raved about La Cheesecake. In either case, the good cheesecake was never far away.

Review and Taste

Since moving to Westchester, I haven't found a hole in the wall with phenomenal cheesecake yet. But I am on the hunt.

But in the meanwhile, I picked up Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite. While I appreciate bite-sized anything, those bites better be knock you off your socks type of good.

This set was ok. Maybe my comparison point is just a bit too high for cheesecake. But at the end of the day, they pretty much reminded me of the DIY Oreo refrigerated cheesecakes that you make at home from a box. Not bad, not nothing to run to the store and get.

Each bite followed the same formula of cookie on the bottom and whipped cream on top.

Maple Vanilla Cheesecake

This was my second favorite of the bunch. It was packed with maple flavor and had a caramel drizzle to it. The cookie was pretty plain with a hint of maple. Not a bad thing to avoid overwhelming the palate.

Gingersnap Spice Cheesecake

So I'm no fan of ginger, but that doesn't mean you won't like it. These are spiced and a bit spicy from the ginger. They taste like gingersnap, just not a personal favorite of mine.

Peppermint Cheesecake

These were probably my favorite out of the bunch. The base reminded me of a Thin Mint cookie, but much denser. The cheesecake was minty, but the swirl of whipped cream didn't add much. Not a bad little bite.

Overall

For $5.99 it's not a bad set, just one that wasn't worthy of repurchase in my book. Here are my thoughts on each flavor.

Would I buy this again? For me, Trader Joe's Cheesecake in a Bite is a one time purchase.

Did you try it?  Let me know what you think in the comments section!

Trader Joe's Advent Calendar for Dogs

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Advent Calendar for Dogs

Today, I am bringing on a special guest reviewer. He's almost 4 years old and was very happy to help out with this review. He was so elated to get this set last year, he took one big sniff of the bag I brought over and immediately began running around in circles. He must have known it was time for Trader Joe's Advent Calendar for Dogs.

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Advent Calendar for Dogs

Ok, I'm a bit early, but I had to get him to review it before this was off of store shelves for the season.

A Black Lab's Review

And in case you haven't figured it out by now, tonight's special guest is Bailey, my Mom's black lab. He's an all-around good boy. Except on Halloween when he's the bad pet. His crime is bothering the 18-year-old cat a bit too much.

A black lab dressed as a bad pet
The guest reviewer of the evening. This was his Halloween costume.

But since he is such a good boy, he did get 2 calendars. One is for when advent actually starts in December. This treat set costs $5.99 but brings the little pupper much joy.

Since pictures couldn't accurately contain Bailey's joy, here is a quick video review of the unpackaging and joy this set brought. Enjoy! And if you are wondering, yes, I'm getting to the cat advent calendar. I'll have another special guest soon featuring another fur baby.

Enjoy! I added Bailey's honest thoughts and reactions to the video. And all thoughts and feelings are Bailey's own. He also knows not to just grab things out of our hands, so if you see any hesitation that comes down to training. Note: There were no crumbs or leftovers of any treats given that evening.

And if this is a holiday must-have and you can't get to a Trader Joe's (or your local store is sold out) these are also available through third-party sellers on Amazon.

Overall

Bailey looks forward to getting on each year. He especially enjoys the day before Christmas with his very big treat. When he sees this box he has been very helpful in removing it promptly from my shopping bag to help with the process of opening it.

Would I buy this again? Yes, Trader Joe's Advent Calendar for Dogs is an annual purchase here.

Did you buy it?  Let me know what you think in the comments section! I'd love to hear your pet's thoughts on this!

Trader Joe's 12 Days of Beauty Review: Beauty Sleighs This Season

An unopened box of Trader Joe's 12 Days of Beauty.

I am a sample junkie. And when Trader Joe's 12 Days of Beauty hit shelves I was strangely excited. Finally a sample set of items on shelves, seasonal items, and some items unique only to this set. But be warned, if you want to be surprised then this review contains spoilers as to what is behind each door (not that you couldn't flip the box over and see what was in it. I've purchased this every year since it first debuted and one thing I can say: the products have rotated greatly.

An unopened box of Trader Joe's 12 Days of Beauty.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

For $19.99, the price here might take you back a bit. That works out to about $1.67 each, which makes it girl math the way it should.

It is hard to find travel-sized items for that price anyway. Now, you could treat this as an AIadvent calendar and open one each day. Or you could be like me and can't wait to crack into it. I made a chilly Saturday afternoon into a home spa day and got into all 12. So if you don't want to know how or what each of these happens to be, now is your last chance before the spoilers.

And yes, I'm adding this to my Trader Joe's Gift Ideas list in case you need some inspiration for holiday shopping.

What is in Trader Joe's 12 Days of Beauty

So if you aren't using this as an advent calendar then there is what it looks like cracked open:

An open package of Trader Joe's twelve days of beauty showing the contents.

And the back:

The back of the box of Trader Joe's Twelve Days of Beauty.

Rainbow Sherbet Flavored Lip Balm- This is pretty standard. If you buy Trader Joe's Lip Balm Set you pretty much know it's the same formula just scented differently. It's hydrating and pleasant. I liked this one.

Vanilla Orchid Scented Body Mist- Trader Joe's doesn't do too much in terms of Body Mists. Usually it's only the Brazil Nut variety which is pretty good, but it is strong. This is a solid choice where it's nice and floral-y without being overpowering. The vanilla is the dominant note with

Pomegranate Berry Lip Butter Balm- If you ever purchased the Lip Treatment Set, you know this is a little squeeze tube of hydrating lip butter. Very hydrating and I enjoy the smell.

Mango and Tangerine Scent Ultra Moisturizing Cream- Same formula as what is normally sold, just in a different scent. Great office drawer size for those dry days. Nice fruity scent to it.

Coconut Coffee Body Scrub- More coconut smell than coffee, but still smells like a non dairy latte. Hydrating with little bits of coffee grounds. I wish they sold this in a larger size.

Hazelnut Scented Body Butter- Pleasant without being overwhelming. Body butter is the typical formula. If you pick up any of the other body butter

Lavender Eucalyptus Bath Fizzer- This isn't a big fizzer, but it is cute and has two colors. It doesn't put a lot of color in the tub and is a good scent to relax to. Very spa like, just wish it were larger or sold separately like the way they used to offer an entire box of bath fizzers.

Rice Polish Cleaning Powder- Like the bath fizzer, you probably won't get a chance to use this more than once. It is super mild and a very fine exfoliant. I wish this was sold in a larger size outside of this set.

Warm Vanilla Scented Leave-in Conditioner - Similar to the Leave-in Conditioner currently on shelves, this one has a more pleasant scent that isn't as overpowering. I actually like this better than the other one currently found on shelves.

Mandarin Basil Scented Moisturizing Hand Balm- If your hands are dry to the point they are cracked and need to be greased back into life, then this is a great product. Otherwise, this is a little too thick for me and does feel greasy. Basil scent was the primary note with the citrus behind it. Probably my least favorite item from the set.

Rose Glow Facial Oil- Since the Rose Facial Oil hasn't been seen lately on shelves as it usually has been, this made its debut in 2024 and is one of my favorites, minus the shimmer. It is floral-scented but does a great job of absorbing into skin.

Illuminating Daily Sunscreen- This also made its debut in 2024. If you are a fan of the Invisible Gel Facial sunscreen this adds and extra tint and shimmer to the formulation. Again, this would be a great year round addition. I'm not sure how well the tint will work on darker skin tones as I'm very fair skinned.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 set is far more unique than the one offered in previous years. Keep in mind yes, it's almost $20, but that still works out to be under $2 a product. Not a bad deal at all. And there really weren't any duds in this box. However, despite some crazy levels of inflation, the price hasn't changed since it was first released. While I absolutely adore these sets every year the only bummer is that you aren't able to buy most of them full-sized or individually outside of this set.

Trader Joe's Best New Products of 2019

With 2019 drawing to a close, it's time for me to take a look back on Trader Joe's Best New Products of 2019. Yes, there have been hits and misses. Consider this the highlight reel of the new items that made their way onto shelves this year. I've categorized them by section so you can see if you agree with my list. If you have something that I missed, I'd love for you to comment below.

Bakery

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Pain Au Lait

How do you make the regular Pain au Lait better? Clearly, the answer is adding chocolate chips. You can see my full review of Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Pain Au Lait here.

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Muffins

The breakfast of champions. And the breakfast for those of us who occasionally don't sweat the calorie count in order to have a bite of deliciousness. Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Muffins are on point.

Frozen

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Malabari Paratha

If there is any section that deserves some expansion, it has to be the frozen Indian selections. The Malabari Paratha is a great option as are the perennial frozen Naan bread.

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Kunefe

It was new to me and new to shelves. But I didn't realize how much I really needed Kunefe in my life. It played with the senses: it was creamy, crispy, sweet, and just a bit nutty.

A container of Trader Joe's Neapolitan Joe Joe's Ice Cream

Yes, they sell a seasonal Neapolitan Joe Joe and cereal as well. But the best rendition of all the Neapolitan products is the Neapolitan Joe Joes ice cream.

Grocery

An unopened bottle of Trader Joe's Jalapeno Sauce on a marble surface

Every so often Trader Joe's surprises us with a sauce we didn't know we needed in our lives. Previous years brought us Zhoug, Garlic Spread, and Vegan Pesto. This year we given Jalapeno Sauce.

An unopened jar of Trader Joe's Chili Onion Crunch

This Chili Onion Crunch sold out so quickly, it has all of us worried we wouldn't see it again. And if you do run out, I've even written a copycat recipe for you to make at home in case it disappears again.

Refrigerated

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Organic Creamy Cashew Fiesta Dip

If snacking is your thing, the Trader Joe's Organic Creamy Cashew Fiesta Dip might be right up your alley. But be warned, this dip is best enjoyed warm.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Creamy Chicken and Poblano Ravioli

Dinners should never be boring. And Trader Joe's Creamy Chicken & Poblano Ravioli will give your palate something new, different, and unexpected.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's 5 Layer Dip

It's not 7 layers, but it didn't' matter. Trader Joe's gave us a solid 5 layer dip.

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Pimento Cheese Dip

Yes, this year was super snackish. But Trader Joe's Pimento Cheese dip goes right at the top of my snack food picks.

Snacks & Sweets

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Cocoa Meringues

Once again, adding chocolate chips can be key. These Chocolate Chip Cocoa Meringues keep the calorie count in check if you are in need of your next sugar high.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups

Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups are awesome. However, Trader Joe's Chocolate Almond Butter Cups give them a run for their money too.

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Organic Dark Chocolate PB and J minis

The sugar rush continued without the pesty sandwich bread and improves upon it with a chocolate coating. You can see my review of Trader Joe's Organic Dark Chocolate PB & J Minis here.

An unopen bag of Trader Joe's Jerk Style Plantain Chips

It took several bags for me to write the review for Trader Joe's Jerk Style Plantain Chips. Every time I came home, the bag I bought had disappeared.

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Ketchup Flavored Spud Crunchies

And yes, 2019 seemed to bring us so many snack items. But the plain Trader Joe's Spud Crunchies were a hit. So why not make it ketchup flavored? So good.

Not Edible, but Still Noteworthy

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer

Trader Joe's Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer wasn't quite as ultra-hydrating as I wanted. But that didn't stop it from being a solid moisturizer.

An unopened bottle of Trader Joe's Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Hair Serum

If you hair needs some taming from frizz or you just want it to smell faintly of coconut, then Trader Joe's Hair Serum was a top pick this year.

Seasonal, but Not Forgotten

An open bag of Trader Joe's Ruby Cacao Wafers with the wafers spilled out to see what they look like

Chocolate of a different kind. And yes, this is its natural color. Trader Joe's Ruby Cacao Wafers may be done for the season, but were pretty unique and different.

An unopened jar of Trader Joe's Vanilla Bean Paste

And with the start of the holiday season is something I hope they can keep around. Trader Joe's Vanilla Bean Paste was affordable and makes for a great substitute for baked goods.

Fearless Flyer November 2019 Matchups

Welcome to another edition of the Trader Joe's Fearless Flyer Matchups. This is the Thanksgiving Flyer and one of two Flyers that will be appearing this month. This one is a bit shorter than most. This guide is pretty simple, it follows the order of the Fearless Flyer shopping list. But sadly, they aren't archived from month to month. So if you want a walk down memory lane, then click on the past flyers at the bottom of this post.
