I love Asian cooking. I just don't want to keep a pantry full of products to make things for myself.

Taste and review

I took a Pad Thai class and was blown away by how many things I would need to keep on shelves to make this one item. So, since I don't make it or make it from scratch regularly, I also don't keep much beyond soy sauce on my pantry shelves.

Maybe the urge to make homemade dumplings or potstickers has hit you. Maybe you've grown tired of Trader Joe's Chile Lime Burgers and need something new to excite your palate.

Enter Trader Joe's Asian Style Ground Chicken.

It's all the flavor you would hope for in an Asian-style marinade. It's complex. It's umami.

Yes, soy is the first flavor that hits your palate. But there is also a slightly tangy flavor. It's a bit sesame, a bit ginger-y, a bit green onion-y, and a whole lot of things that play a harmonious background profile.

It's good.

This ground chicken looks so different from say other ground meats. It's thoroughly marinaded but in a pan, if you aren't breaking it up, you'll have one big patty.

So it would work for no effort burgers or meatballs.

I used mine to pair with fried rice. I was wishing for some wonton wrappers. These would make pretty awesome dumplings.

The only flavor that did not stand out was the "natural rosemary flavor." It was the last ingredient, but it did not stand out. There wasn't any real heat from this, but that can always be added in either during or after the cooking process.

Overall

For $4.49 this is priced in line with most ground meats. It makes for an exceptionally easy meal. While this is chicken, it is not bland in any way. This was another really good pre-marinated chicken option.

Would I buy this again?  Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Asian Style Ground Chicken again. I have a feeling this one is going to become a staple in my household.

Oh my gosh another product I've missed! I also love Asian food. And I do have a pantry full of various Asian ingredients that I've had to buy to make certain dishes and then ultimately throw away cuz I didn't use them enough. I took two Thai cooking courses a while back and it was amazing the number of ingredients I would need to complete 4-5 dishes. It was worth it at the time but not recipes I would make on a really frequent basis. This sounds like a great product to make a number of Asian inspired dishes. Thanks for the review.

Hey Dag! I'm in the same situation. I have a lot of phenomenal Asian markets. I buy stuff, open it, use it once and then get rid of it about a year later. But this might be one you'll like. Super quick and easy lunch/dinner idea. And it reheats pretty well. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!

I bought this tonight and basically made Asian style burritos. I tossed in some extra garlic, ginger, black vinegar, a little mirin, sesame oil and some sriracha. Dumped in a bag of diced carrots and peas & sliced up some green onions. Spoon the whole shebang into a TJ's tortilla wrap.Yum!
