The pros:Â Trader Joe's Ovoline Mozzarella is super fresh mozzarella that cuts easily and sits in enough salt water to add flavor.
The cons: Â Short shelf life, if you are going to only eat one cheese ball at a time then you'll want to cut the other in half to ensure that it stays submerged in salt water.
The verdict: Â I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's cheese aisle. Especially their mozzarella options as their isn't a bad one in the bunch. Trader Joe's Ovoline Mozzarella is no different. This is a soft mozzarella cheese that tastes a bit fresher than Trader Joe's Pre-Sliced Mozzarella. It's also got a nice saltiness on the outside. Without a good amount of salt, it wouldn't taste like much.
For $3.49 you are getting two four ounce balls of cheese. Once you remove one of the cheese balls, then you will have the other left that is at best only half submerged. If you want to keep it fresh, you'll have to cut it in half and place it back in the water. This cheese was great for snack, slicing, or for melting. Any way you prepare it, this is a good choice. If you want something smoother and creamier then you should reach for Trader Joe's Burrata instead.
Overall, I'd buy this again if I needed fresh mozzarella. It's worth a try.
