Product Overview

What is Trader Joe's Honey Hydration Day and Night Cream Duo?

The Honey Hydration Day & Night Cream Duo comes with two separate 1.8-ounce jars, one for daytime use and one for night. The day cream is lightweight, fast-absorbing, and designed to provide all-day hydration without clogging pores. It also includes honey and moisturizing ingredients to lock in moisture and protect the skin barrier.

The night cream has a richer, more nourishing formula to deeply hydrate and repair the skin while you sleep. It features similar hydrating properties but is designed to be more intensive, helping to soothe and replenish dry or tired skin overnight.

Review

Performance: Both the day and night creams in this duo deliver hydration without feeling greasy or heavy. The day cream is light and absorbs quickly, leaving your skin with a fresh, hydrated glow. It wears well under makeup and helps keep skin moisturized throughout the day without making it feel oily.

The night cream is richer and thicker, offering a deeper level of hydration that feels luxurious after a long day. It's perfect for applying after your evening skincare routine, as it locks in moisture and works to rejuvenate your skin while you sleep. By morning, skin feels soft and replenished.

Scent: Both creams have a subtle, sweet honey scent that's pleasant but not overpowering. The fragrance is light enough for those who are sensitive to strong scents, making it an enjoyable part of your skincare routine.

Texture: The day cream has a lightweight, creamy texture that glides smoothly over the skin, while the night cream is thicker and more luxurious, perfect for evening pampering.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

The taste

What is Crème Fraîche?

Crème Fraîche is a cultured cream that is thicker and less tangy than sour cream, but richer and creamier due to its higher fat content. Its smooth consistency and subtle flavor make it a versatile addition to a wide range of dishes. Trader Joe's offers a high-quality version that's affordable and available in an 8-ounce tub.

Nutritional facts of Trader Joe's Creme Fraiche

Tasting Notes and Texture

Its mild tang makes it a great option for dishes where you want richness without the overwhelming sharpness of sour cream or yogurt. Whether used as a topping or mixed into recipes, it adds a subtle depth that enhances food flavor without overpowering it.

Ingredients in Trader Joe's Creme Fraiche.

How to Use Trader Joe's Crème Fraîche

Trader Joe's Crème Fraîche can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some ideas on how to incorporate it into your cooking:

  • Soups: Add a spoonful to creamy soups like potato leek, mushroom, or tomato bisque for extra richness.
  • Tacos: Use it as a creamy topping on tacos instead of sour cream for a more refined flavor.
  • Desserts: Top fresh fruit, pies, or tarts with crème fraîche to add a tangy contrast to sweet treats.

2. Stir It In

Stirring crème fraîche into dishes adds both creaminess and a slight tang:

Just be aware this has no preservatives, so unlike conventional sour cream, this product will expire in a relatively short period of time.

This item is only available at Trader Joe's in the refrigerated section. It is currently a year-round item.

Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans Review: Smells Like Dessert, Costs Less Than Therapy

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Vanilla Beans on a pink surface.

Vanilla is one of those essential ingredients that can take a dessert from good to unforgettable. Whether you're whipping up cookies, cakes, or custards, using real vanilla beans brings a depth of flavor that extract just can't match. Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans are a must-have for any home baker who wants to elevate their recipes with authentic vanilla flavor. Let's dive into what makes these vanilla beans worth trying, how to use them, and some recipe ideas to get you inspired.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Vanilla Beans on a pink surface.

Product Overview

What Are Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans?

Product Description

Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans come in a 2-bean package priced at $2.99, sourced from Madagascar, a region known for producing high-quality vanilla. These whole vanilla beans offer rich, aromatic flavor with hints of bourbon, though there's no alcohol involved-just pure vanilla goodness. The beans are plump, fragrant, and filled with precious vanilla seeds (also known as "caviar") that add beautiful specks and incredible flavor to your dishes.

Honest Review of Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans

Flavor: The Bourbon vanilla beans from Trader Joe's deliver an intense, sweet, and slightly smoky vanilla flavor, making them perfect for recipes where vanilla is the star. Whether you're infusing the beans into a custard or scraping out the seeds for baking, you'll notice a marked difference in flavor depth compared to standard vanilla extract. There is nothing like the caviar from a freshly scraped vanilla bean.

Quality: These beans are sourced from Madagascar, a region celebrated for producing some of the best vanilla in the world. The beans are moist and pliable, which makes them easy to slice open and scrape out the seeds. Overall, they're high quality for the price, especially considering vanilla beans can often cost significantly more.

Packaging: The beans come in a sealed, clear plastic vacuum-sealed bag that keeps them fresh and prevents them from drying out. It's a practical storage option that keeps the beans at their best until you're ready to use them.

Overall: Now usually I've seen vanilla beans have a grade like A or B. I don't see that here. But absent the grade on these important things to look for in quality vanilla are: plumpness and size, if they are moist and flexible and not dry or brittle, dark brown and shiny (which means it has the essential vanilla oils), aroma (a strong vanilla scent), a high seed content which gives vanilla its classic flavor. Based on all of these qualities, despite no grade present, these seem to be quality beans.

Ingredients

  • Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans: 100% pure, with no additives or preservatives. Just pure vanilla beans sourced from the world's leading vanilla-producing region. Bourbon is not a reference to the alcohol by the same name but refers to Madagascar vanilla specifically.
Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans the back of the package.

Price and Availability

  • Pricing: These two bean packages are $2.99.
  • Availability: This is a limited-run product that arrived just in time for baking season.

How to Use Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans

  1. Prepare the Bean: Using a sharp knife, split the vanilla bean lengthwise to expose the seeds inside.
  2. Scrape the Seeds: Use the back of your knife to gently scrape out the seeds, also called vanilla caviar. These tiny seeds are packed with flavor and should be added to your recipe as instructed.
  3. Use the Pod: Don't toss the pod! It still holds a lot of flavor. You can simmer it in sauces, infuse it into sugar, or place it in milk or cream for rich, vanilla-scented liquids.
  4. Make your own extract. You'll need about 8 beans to make 1 cup of extract. Or if you have a smaller jar you could use just 4 beans and half of a cup of a neutral spirit. Just add a neutral spirit like vodka and your beans and allow them to sit for 6+ months to infuse.

Recipe Suggestions

  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream: Scrape the seeds of one vanilla bean into your ice cream base for a rich, authentic vanilla flavor and those signature black specks.
  • Vanilla Sugar: Bury the scraped pod in a jar of sugar and let it sit for a few weeks. You'll have vanilla-infused sugar perfect for baking or adding to coffee.
  • Custards and Puddings: Vanilla beans elevate custards, puddings, or crème brûlée, adding a deep vanilla flavor that's unbeatable.
  • Baked Goods: Add vanilla caviar to your favorite cake, cookie, or pancake recipes for an extra burst of flavor.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

What is Bourbon Vanilla?

Bourbon vanilla refers to the variety of vanilla grown on islands in the Indian Ocean, including Madagascar. The "Bourbon" name doesn't mean the beans contain alcohol but instead refers to the region's historical ties to the French Bourbon dynasty.

How long do vanilla beans last?

Stored properly in an airtight container, vanilla beans can last up to two years. To keep them fresh, store them in a cool, dark place-away from humidity.

Can I reuse vanilla beans?

Yes! After scraping out the seeds, the pods can still be used to infuse flavor into sugar, milk, or cream.

Conclusion

Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Beans are a fantastic option for anyone looking to enhance their baking and cooking with authentic vanilla flavor. Sourced from Madagascar, these beans offer a rich, sweet, and slightly smoky taste that's perfect for everything from ice cream to custards. At $2.99 for two beans, they're an affordable way to bring a gourmet touch to your kitchen. Whether you're a home baker or just love experimenting with flavors, these vanilla beans are a must-have pantry item. Just make sure to stock up when you see them, as they can be hard to find outside of the fall and holiday season!

Trader Joe’s Leave-In Conditioner Might Be the Best $5.99 You’ll Spend on Your Hair

Trader Joe's Leave in Conditioner new bottle on a pink surface.

Amidst all of the new Fall flavored products, there is a non-fall-themed item: Trader Joe's Leave-In Conditioner. If you are a fan of the substantially more expensive Ouai Leave-in Conditioner then you might feel you've hit the jackpot. But if you are sensitive to fragrances, this item is best left on the shelf. Keep in mind while the term "dupe" is often thrown around, please don't think that these products are identical as they have substantial differences.

Trader Joe's Leave in Conditioner new on a pink surface

Product Overview

What Are Trader Joe's Leave-In Conditioner?

This is a brand-new leave-in conditioner. If you've never used a product like this then you use this after your shower but before you've had a chance to blow dry your hair. What a good leave-in conditioner does is make your hair feel soft after drying without leaving your hair feeling greasy or looking greasy.

How to Use

  1. Start with Damp Hair: After washing and towel-drying your hair, spray the conditioner evenly from mid-length to ends.
  2. Avoid the Roots: For best results, avoid spraying directly onto the roots to prevent greasiness.
  3. Comb Through: Use a wide-tooth comb to distribute the product evenly through your hair.
  4. Air-Dry or Style: Let your hair air-dry for natural texture or follow your usual heat-styling routine for smooth, manageable hair.
Ingredients and how to use Trader Joe's Leave in Conditioner.

Price and Availability

There is no mention of this being a seasonal product, so it is reasonable to believe this will be in Trader Joe's regular rotations of products. There are some seasonal products in the health and beauty aisle, but this does not appear to be one of them. This is priced at $5.99. OUAI will set you back $30.00.

Trader Joe's Leave in Conditioner new bottle on a pink surface.

OUAI Comparison

Many products in the health and beauty aisle are reasonably good "dupes" for another brand but most importantly, they are available at a substantially better price at Trader Joe's. While they aren't exact, nor do they just seem to be "white labeled" and sold under Trader Joe's name, they are reasonably close enough to earn the comparison. In fact, when Trader Joe's posted this product on its own website, it would seem like they're in fact hinting at it being a reasonably good dupe.

Price- Ouai Leave in Conditioner sells for $30 for a 4.7-ounce bottle, while Trader Joe's Leave in Condition sells for $5.99 for a 6-ounce bottle.

Fragrance- Both are floral, but Trader Joe's is very fragrant. In fact, fragrance is literally the third ingredient. I found this product to be a bit strong for my liking. The notes here are rose, jasmine, white musk, and bergamot.

Ingredients- Here is a quick breakdown of where they are similar and different.

Similar Ingredients:

  1. Water: Both products have water as the base.
  2. Cetearyl Alcohol: This fatty alcohol is present in both formulas and helps with texture and moisturizing properties.
  3. Cyclopentasiloxane: A silicone used in both products for slip and smoothing effects.
  4. Phenoxyethanol: A preservative found in both formulas.
  5. Behentrimonium Chloride: This is a conditioning agent present in both products.
  6. Glycerin: A humectant that helps retain moisture, found in both.
  7. Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5): Present in both, this ingredient helps with moisturizing and strengthening hair.
  8. Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (Argan Oil): Both products contain argan oil for hydration and nourishment.
  9. Ethylhexylglycerin: A skin conditioning agent and preservative, used in both formulas.
  10. Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E): Found in both, this helps in conditioning and offers antioxidant benefits.
  11. Cetrimonium Chloride: A conditioning agent present in both products.

Unique Ingredients in Trader Joe's:

  1. Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordii Oil Copolymer: Provides conditioning benefits.
  2. Hydrolyzed Rhodophyceae Extract: Likely a seaweed extract providing moisturizing properties.
  3. Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil (Baobab Oil): is known for its moisturizing properties.
  4. Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil: Offers nourishment and helps calm irritated skin.

Unique Ingredients in OUAI:

  1. Hydrolyzed Keratin: Adds strength and helps to repair damaged hair.
  2. Hydrolyzed Quinoa: Provides moisture retention and repair properties.
  3. Tamarind Seed Extract: Helps retain moisture and adds shine.
  4. Macrocystis Pyrifera (Kelp) Extract: Known for its nourishing and mineral-rich properties.
  5. Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract: An antioxidant that helps with hair strength and protection.
  6. Hibiscus Flower Extract: Used for its conditioning properties and ability to promote healthy hair growth.

Key Differences:

OUAI's ingredients suggest a focus on nourishment and repair for damaged or dry hair, while Trader Joe's aims more at hydration and lightweight conditioning. But they are extremely similar.

Performance- If you can get past the smell both products work well, but that can be a very subjective statement. Some people don't report great results with the Ouai even for the money. That being said, I do like how Trader Joe's left my hair feeling. But I am not a fan of the fragrance.

Value for Money

For the price here, there is no comparison between this and OUAI. The OUAI is priced 6x more. Honestly, I was happy about the performance of the Trader Joe's product for $5.99. And if you are looking for other options for leave-in conditioners at Trader Joe's then consider reaching for Trader Joe's Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Hair Serum. Its ability to condition and smooth hair was solid and didn't share the strong floral aroma. While it is heavier, it smoothes well and its fragrance is lighter. But if you are a bargain hunter and like the good dupes then this is a solid value.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Leave-In Conditioner

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Does this conditioner provide heat protection?

While it contains ingredients that help protect hair from damage, it's not specifically designed as a heat protectant. For heat styling, you may want to layer it with a dedicated heat protection spray.

Is this product cruelty-free?

Yes, like many of Trader Joe's products, this leave-in conditioner is not tested on animals.

Where can I buy this?

This is a regular item at Trader Joe's. However, if you can't get there in-person, then it is available through third-party sellers on Amazon.

Conclusion

Trader Joe's Leave-In Conditioner is an affordable and lightweight solution for smooth, hydrated hair. This product is meant to be a more affordable version of OUAI's Leave-in Conditioner at a fraction of the cost. However, the biggest detriment to both products is the strong floral fragrance. While I got good results with this product, your experience may vary as that is the nature of any health and beauty product.

Keep this product away from the roots of your hair to avoid a greasy appearance, but it should leave your hair relatively soft until your next wash.

Overall, I liked this product but didn't love it. I found the fragrance to be too strong for my liking. But it is very similar to the more expensive product. Its performance worked well for me, I just couldn't escape the smell which didn't dissipate much with drying my hair.

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub Review: I Scrubbed Myself with Fall and Now I’m a Walking PSL

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Scrub

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub is a seasonal, fall-inspired exfoliant designed to give your skin a smooth, hydrated glow. Priced at $6.99, this scrub combines real pumpkin, sugar, and moisturizing oils to gently buff away dead skin while leaving a lingering autumnal scent. If you're a fan of pumpkin spice and self-care, this product could be your next go-to in your skincare routine so as long as you pick it up before it runs out. Trader Joe's does have a series of seasonal scrubs. This is only available around the Fall.

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Scrub

Product Overview

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub comes in a 16-ounce jar filled with a blend of pumpkin enzymes, sugar, and essential oils. It promises to exfoliate while moisturizing the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and subtly scented with notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, and clove. Perfect for those crisp fall mornings or winding down after a long day, this scrub captures the essence of autumn in a self-care product.

Scent: The scent is one of the standout features of this scrub. The blend of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg gives it a cozy, warm smell without being overpowering. Some love how it feels like a true fall experience in a jar, but others may find it a bit too strong smeling for their liking.

Texture: The sugar granules in the scrub offer effective exfoliation without being too abrasive. It's gritty enough to slough off dead skin, but the addition of pumpkin enzymes and oils ensures that it doesn't leave your skin feeling dry or irritated. It isn't the fine texture of the facial scrub but it is less intense than the lavendar scrub.

Performance: After use, the skin feels soft, smooth, and hydrated. Thanks to the oils, there's no need to follow up with lotion, as the scrub leaves a slight moisturizing layer. However, those with sensitive skin may want to test it out first, as the spicy scent and exfoliating granules could be a bit intense for some. Also, be sure to give your rub a good rinse after using this product as it can leave the surface slippery.

Ingredients

  • Sugar: Acts as a natural exfoliant to slough off dead skin cells.
  • Pumpkin Extract: Help gently exfoliate and brighten the skin.
  • Cinnamon and Nutmeg Oils: Add a warm, autumnal fragrance.
  • Hydrating Oils: Includes sunflower seed oil and sweet almond oil for a moisturizing finish.
Ingredients in Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub.

Comparison: Pumpkin Body Scrub vs. Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Pumpkin ScrubAn unopened jar of Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub

Scent:

  • Pumpkin Body Scrub: Warm, sweet, and spicy. Perfect for fall lovers.
  • Lavender Salt Scrub: Calming and herbal, great for those who prefer a more floral scent year-round.

Texture:

  • Pumpkin Body Scrub: Uses sugar granules, making it a bit gentler on the skin compared to salt.
  • Lavender Salt Scrub: The salt granules provide a more intense exfoliation, which can be great for tough, dry skin, but may feel harsh on sensitive areas.

Performance:

Lavender Salt Scrub: Also moisturizes, but the lavender scent is lighter and more soothing. Perfect for pre-bedtime use.

Pumpkin Body Scrub: Leaves a moisturizing layer thanks to the oils, and the scent lingers on the skin.

Overall

While I'm not wild over either fragrance, the lavender is larger and is not seasonal making it my preferred pick. But honestly, both are solid choices.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product

Is Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub vegan?

Yes, it is vegan-friendly, containing no animal-derived ingredients.

Can I use this scrub on my face?

It's best to avoid using body scrubs on your face, as the sugar granules may be too rough for the delicate skin there.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

If you have sensitive skin, it's recommended to patch-test first, as the fragrance and granules might cause irritation.

Conclusion

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Scrub is a delightful fall-themed addition to any self-care routine. With its warm, spicy pumpkin scent and effective sugar-based exfoliation, it's perfect for those who love seasonal products and want to indulge in a little autumnal luxury. The scrub's texture is just right for buffing away dead skin without being overly harsh, and the oils leave your skin soft and moisturized afterward.

While the scent might be a bit strong for those who prefer more subtle fragrances, it's a must-try for anyone who loves pumpkin spice. It's also a more gentle alternative to Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub, though it may not be ideal for sensitive skin. Overall, it's a cozy, affordable body scrub that brings the spirit of fall into your skincare routine.
