Butter. The pantry staple that most of us can't live without. Anything mixed into it is referred to as compound butter. Thus that is why this is labeled as a butter spread.
Taste and review
Sweet and savory butter has come to the shelves of Trader Joe's. The savory is Trader Joe's Roasted Garlic and Herb Butter Spread. This on the other hand is the sweet answer to the savory.
Now, this past winter Trader Joe's experimented with the addition of the nearly similar-looking tub of Black Truffle Butter. It was very popular among the truffle lovers out there.
But it sold out and the season was over.
Enter this summer. Two nearly identical tubs of butter have made their way onto store shelves. While they might sound reasonably priced at $2.49. This is smaller than a stick of butter.
So this product clocks in at nearly $11 a pound. While Black truffle wasn't in most home cooks' kitchens, I'm willing to bet that brown sugar and cinnamon are on your shelf.
Now, price complaints aside, this is pretty good. You might miss the grittiness that sugar and butter have that makes them so magical in cookie dough.
But this isn't going to be turned into cookie dough either. Here is something that will play well with sweet potatoes, bread, and toast, among other pairings.
It's more assertive on the cinnamon than the brown sugar.
Overall
As I said, this would be easy to make at home (or in the event, they discontinue it for any reason). Be sure to reach for good quality butter. My favorite is Trader Joe's Cultured Butter. But if you check out this recipe, you'll see just how easy it is. Best of all, all the ingredients combined won't set you back $11.
Currently, this product as of 6/2025 has been continued and been replaced by a seasonal Trader Joe's Brown Sugar and Maple Syrup butter that was sold around the holidays.
Would I buy this again? I'd make this at home first before buying Trader Joe's Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Butter Spread again. It's not a criticism of the product, but for the price, this should be a lot larger.
