The pros: Trader Joe's 3 Cheese Vegetable Ravioli seems to the fresh pasta section in the refrigerated case.
The cons: Flavors here might not be for everyone. Some of mine were very stuck together. One leaked its filling
The verdict: Â I'm always on the hunt for something I haven't seen before. Just past the flowers, is the fresh pasta section. This is the first new looking item I've seen added to the pasta section since I first saw the Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine.
Now, on the packaging the word vegetable is highlighted. Yes, the taste of the mushrooms, chard, and kale come right through this and almost hide the three cheeses present here. Most exterior pastas taste pretty much the same.
The filling is traditionally the star of any ravioli. This had a unique texture that was more enjoyable at room temperature than right out of the pan. The mushroom flavor was present, but not the texture. The chard and kale were in small pieces mixed in adding a touch of bitterness to the filling. The filling overall had more of a pate consistency. It was smooth but quite mushroomy with a bit of bitterness.
For $3.49 these weren't bad, but they weren't my favorite either. I enjoyed mine with just a bit of extra virgin olive oil, but I can see almost any sauce going with these. It would pair well with a red sauce or a cream sauce. And while I'm sure someone can comment on pairings more than I can, because the filling just wasn't my favorite of the pasta aisle. It wasn't inedible, but it did not rise to being great on my palate either.

Would I buy this again? No, I would not buy Trader Joe's 3 Cheese Vegetable Ravioli again. It wasn't bad, but wasn't my favorite ravioli.

Why is it that ravioli never seems to have enough filling? I am rarely able to truly discern the different ingredients in the filling because there never seems to be enough of it in my opinion. I know that it is possible to fill them more without the risk of it leaking out. I have gone through alot of the different ravioli products that Trader Joe's offers. Sadly, haven't found one that I absolutely love yet.

I've made ravioli before, believe it or not the easiest (and ugliest) ravioli I ever made were using won ton wrappers from the Asian market. Those noodles are the thinnest and will hold the most filling. If you want to make your own, that is totally the way to go.
